It doesn't say on the site, but I think that the version you are ordering is the ECE version which is not DOT certified. This would not make this a legal helmet in states with helmet laws. Protection would be the same, but just something to keep in mind.

Amazingly enough, living in one of the nanniest of nanny states (MN) the only helmet laws we have are for minors and pre-endorsement permittees...:

It actually says "ECE 22-05 approved, not DOT" right below the helmet picture on the website

That's funny. I looked at the other two helmets. The one I didn't look at is the one that actually says that.

Should I be adding this info to the post? You're entirely right but there's no difference between a DOT and this ECE model (besides the small sticker on the back).

Difference could lead to a hefty ticket... I wouldnt get one, but will check out website for other deals

It's possible that in states like NY that require helmets, you could be found guilty of not wearing adequate protection if you're not wearing DOT-approved gear. That being said, few cops are going to look for the DOT sticker...

As far as the product goes, I don't see the point of spending more than $200 or so on a helmet. You can get a HJC CL-16 (MSRP 129.99) and you are already getting DOT and SNELL approved protection. I don't see the point of shelling out 3x the cash for carbon fiber and all that if you're not getting superior protection... I don't think my helmet is overly heavy (I wear an IS-16 myself for reference). 84 dBA is nice, I'll admit, but I don't think it's worth the $300+ markup. Just wear earplugs if the noise bothers you. It does appear to be a good price for this product if you're dead-set on it!

Just spend 2 bucks and get a DOT sticker from ebay then slab it on the helmet. The thing is, the US version is DOT certified if a determined officer wants to check your helmet model, and I don't think they could find out if it is an US or EU version if you remove all the EU stickers/tags inside the helmet.

There are also a few reputable shops from Germany selling for about the same price.

You make a good point. However, it is worth noting that there are currently no snell certified modular helmets in the US so that kind of protection doesn't really belong to this class of helmet.

Depending on the law enforcement involved, you could be looking at a ticket for getting caught wearing this helmet in the states, but i don't see anyone looking twice if you add the sticker itself since it is already ECE certified and the American version is DOT certified. This is definitely one of the nicer modular helmets.

FWIW, you can buy the DOT stickers at many MC shops.

Once you go modular you will never go back!
