Therm-A-Rest ProLite self-inflating pad for $59.99 at Amazon!
When I first starting looking at self-inflating pads, this one immediately leapt to the top of my list. It is soooooo small and light! But at $120, it just as soon fell off my list.
So instead I bought, and really like, the ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight self-inflating pad. Been using it all spring and summer and it has worked great. And yes, I realize that I might be a wimp for even taking a pad. So be it. I enjoy sleeping so much more with the pad that it is an essential piece of kit for me.
But as I contemplate longer hikes, and wanting to do more with less, I keep looking at that pad in my pack. It's pretty light, and rolls up surprisingly small, but it is still the largest, bulkiest thing in my pack.
Needless to say, I have continued to lust after the ProLite, going by the aisle on purpose just to see if I can finally talk myself into a $120 sleeping pad. But no way.
So, I got an email from REI about their outlet sale, and they have the red ProLite's on clearance. Only the Small and the Large, but at $90 (less 20%) for the large, I am all of the sudden very intrigued! So, just for kicks and giggles, I go and check it out on Amazon, just to make sure I am not making a mistake, and lo and behold, the *exact* ProLite (orange/regular) pad that I have been drooling after is priced at $59.99 SHIPPED!

Obviously I can't yet speak to it's comfort, but I will post back on that. And Therm-A-Rest is one of the high-end brands, as far as quality, so I think HALF OFF is a pretty good deal!
