A couple reasons that are current and not from the history books.
Beef its whats for dinner, the US is still the leading producer of beef products. Cheese, it makes anything taste better and we are tops here out of any country. These top two might partially be responsible for us leading in obesity. The positive is that being prosperous we have so much food were all eating too much. We give more than any other country and are probably the reason a large percentage of the world hasn't starved or died from a preventable diseases. No other country is even in the same ballpark as the US. Here at home we are also ranked the most generous populace in terms of volunteering, helping strangers, and donating money. |

Why anybody feels anything can be done about lobbyists confuses me. The legal system is setup so that smart attorneys can find out ways around Washington's non-sense. And no, don't assume that's a sympathetic line towards lobbyists. Rather, Congress is stupid enough that they think they can pass fool-proof, loophole-less laws. (Note: Part of the reason I posted that link is that more than likely, I'd put money on Bridgeburner voting for Reid in 2010 --- I assume he's been with SD for sometime. Even the Senate Major Leader who is one of the most powerful people in Washington is sympathetic to lobbyists since they are his sons.) Last edited by Hawk2007; 08-07-2012 at 03:33 PM.. The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

Can't find the other one but one was something like "Johnny lost his life between 97.3 and 101.2" implying he was changing his radio station when he lost control. Although haha, this one may be better (not a NZ one).

It was pulled from a Peggy Noonan article if that changes your opinion. But no, their his, not ours. I'm proud of his accomplishments, but I don't share the medals with any of the competitors who win or don't. None of us were waking up at 6 AM to train and basically live in the water for the last 20 years. But, he did travel over roads and bridges to swim meets and the Olympics that he did not build. |

I would presume, then, that you don't think America is the greatest nation in the world, because it is irrelevant to you if we are. It only matters how great you are, and no-one else matters. |

I'm happy for the athletes and I'm happy for the country. I did nothing for these people except pay taxes, but at the end of day, it's their accomplishment and their hard work that paid off. My tax dollars did nothing for that. Sure, it contributed to whatever meals, lodging, travel expenses etc. for London, but in that case, you could also argue the Chinese are the real winners as well. |
