But if a ride in some cheap car gives you a bumpy, nasty ride but still manages you to get you places, why would anyone purchase luxury cars? The functionality is essentially the same, and with all the speed limitations in place, you won't get to places any faster... but a good car is safer, smoother, quieter, more reliable, etc etc... It's a similar difference for a mechanical keyboard, it's just a more pleasant, sound, wholesome experience, and for a lot of us who have to spend many, many hours in front of the computer everyday, it's a worthy investment, and we're willing to pay a premium for it. |

Browns aren't all that loud, and as others have said they increase your WPM about 5-10. If you type a lot, that's definitely something that's worth it. It's also easier on your fingers to type on a mechanical keyboard too.
If you are in a perfectly quiet room by yourself, then maybe the noise would be somewhat noticeable. I use browns at work and it's just fine. I can't speak for red/blues/blacks as I've never tried them. |

Personally I love the feel of typing on a mech kb. Here is what my brother uses to quiet down his mech kb's.
http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/inde...eners.html I am a fan of Steelseries, Filco, and WASD branded kb's. |

Cherry MX Browns are an absolute joy to type on. I was already a fast typer (130 WPM~), but the mech keyboard made me even faster. I would imagine Blacks to be a similar experience.
I found that a real downside to having a Leopold mechanical keyboard at home is that I whine like a little $#%#@ at work/school/etc. because all the keyboards everywhere else are crappy rubber domes! Also, my typing speed on rubber domes is absolute fail now! |

How is this not front page? I'm considering it even though I already have a k60 and a rosewill brown keyboard.
BTW, to those who say mechanicals will increase typing speed, thats a load of bull. I type 90wpm at 100% accuracy (there are only a few people in the world who genuinely type 120+) and saw ZERO change in typing speed on reds and brown mx switches. ZERO. Great rebate Companies:
Patriot Memory (4myrebate.com): 6 Weeks Tiger Direct (4myrebate): 3 weeks Rain-X (in house): 3 weeks BAD BAD MAIL IN REBATE COMPANIES: Xigmatek 26 weeks, 14 emails, 2 phone calls (finally received) NZXT 20 weeks, 4 phone calls, still no rebate |

Have browns at home and at work. Never tried blacks but they are definite stiffer. If you need something good for general computer use and lots of typing with other people around to consider I recommend browns, with o-rings to make it even more silent (shortens keystroke also). $60 rosewill deals trump this, but who knows when that will be again. Ports are great on this and are a little harder to find in mechanicals for cheap.
Edit: I hit 180wpm on blues and only in 170's using brown, and more consistently fast on blues. So switch type definitely makes a little difference. Last edited by karazi; 08-04-2012 at 11:04 AM.. |

Maybe you should be contacting the Guinness Book of World Records then. |

---- Just to comment on switches: I've got a das Model S with Cherry MX blue switches. The keys make a loud "tak tak" sound, but I like it that way. Gives a nice tactile response. |
