Sony Vaio S Series Laptop $760 AR and CB. Good Deal?
I tried posting in a different part of the forums but hadn't received a response, and my tax free holiday ends today. Does this seem like a slickish price to pay for the following machine?I am thinking of picking up a Sony VAIO 15.5" S Series Custom Laptop Model Number: SVS151190X Enhanced Specs are: 3rd gen Intel® Core™ i5-3210M processor (2.50GHz / 3.10GHz with Turbo Boost) Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit Microsoft® Office 2010 Starter 15.5" LED backlit Full HD display (1920 x 1080) Weighs 4.42 lbs. NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M LE (2GB) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology 640GB (7200rpm) hard drive 6GB (4GB fixed onboard + 2GB removable) DDR3-1333Mhz CD/DVD player / burner Internal lithium polymer battery (4400mAh) up to 6.25 hours battery life PS VITA (wi-fi only using 250VITA) or 160 GB PS3 (code 250PS3) or additional $112 off using CAMPUS10 code Price comes to $1120, but only about $763 after $150 Visa giftcard rebate, 5% cb from sdiscover, and estimated selling of PS VITA @ $150 (hopefully higher, though). Free Shipping and no tax because due to tax holiday in TN. And any thoughts about selling the PS VITA over the PS 3? Would the WiFi only VITA fetch close to $200 by anyone's estimation?

i would wait for ultra books
from a review To compensate for the lack luster display, Sony imbued this version with NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE and an Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics chip. Both of these cards should get you covered for your basic and gaming needs but it's not going to be that satisfying (because of the screen) unless you plug an external monitor to maximize the dedicated graphics chip's capabilities. there's not much you can do about the poor display but just to deal with it or attach an external Last edited by cavan; 08-05-2012 at 03:30 PM.. |

Thanks for the response.
Is that true of the 1920x1080 version of the display as well? Are there any ultrabooks you would recommend that have admirable gaming performance? I've not had the best of luck finding such a system yet in the sub-one-thousand price range. |
