Day Z
Day Z Give me your answer, do... Great. Now all I can think about is the existential horror of entering into (hypothetical) cryosleep as the last conscious act of my life, deprived of even the simple awareness of my murder at the hands of some sentient digital entity during a crisis of conscience. Which isn't quite as terrifying as the inevitable remake starring Hayden Christensen as Dave with Keanu Reeves as the voice of HAL... |

How is the party system? How many people can be together? Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium. Kyle: Yeah. Stan: <salutes the American flag> Go America. Kyle: <salutes> Go America... Stan: Go Broncos Kyle: Yeah go Broncos. Cartman: Yeah... |

I hope the stand alone game allows people to customize the look of their character (at least their clothing). When I watch videos online, people have a hard time telling the difference between who their friends are and who is an enemy.
I don't play, so I have a question about chatting in the game. I know there is a text-chat feature, but is there a voice option? Say your party comes up on another player you don't know, do you have to just type to see if he's a friendly? Or if you're within like 100ft, can you just talk into your headset they'll hear you? |

You start out without a map, so you'll learn from experience on the location you spawn at. This helps: http://dayzdb.com/map My friends and I decided to use the beach and docks as meeting locations. For instance, to meet up from a fresh start, we would pick a beach or the docks of one of the cities. Verify with each other over Ventrilo when we're in sight of each other, because there's a chance that one of us is sighting a random player. You don't have a radar, so you won't even know where your friends are. So, when we enter buildings, we sometimes get separated. We would tell each other to stop moving if we hear random footsteps or tell each other that the footsteps belong to one of us. Hence, there is basically no limit on how many can be together -- you can form a colony basically. There are videos of groups that would repair a vehicle to use as faster transportation to travel to different cities to collect vehicle parts. Then repair a boat to find an isolated island. After that, build a helicopter on that remote island (so random people won't steal it). They would board the helicopter and raid the cities. Last edited by MrWD; 08-09-2012 at 07:22 AM.. |

A player is about the size of the smallest colored circle you can see on the map. Someone pointed out that there are multiple servers. You get hungry, cold, and thirsty. You can die by zombies or by other players. Killing zombies don't have any rewards, because shooting at them will just draw more zombies and other players to you. For instance, when we got hungry and thirsty, we had to look for canned foods and bottled water/soda cans. We butchered a live cow (using the hatchet), then gut it (hunting knife required), and looted its meat. We then had to go into the forest and harvest wood (hatchet required) and build a camp fire (wood and box of matches required). Finally, we cooked the meat we got from the cow. The meat fulfills hunger and restores lost blood. No currency in the game. You have to find everything you need. The game does keep counts of zombies killed, murders committed, and bandits killed. I assume a player is marked as a "bandit" once they "murder" another player. Last edited by MrWD; 08-09-2012 at 07:49 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I once ran into a guy and we both did not have weapons. We quickly tried to look for one. Unfortunately, he found an AK-47 before I did and he chased me down with it... lol My friend was playing alone one night, he had an assault rifle and a handgun. He ran into another player and decided to play nice for a try. He made a mistake of giving that player his handgun, because that player killed my friend after he received the gun. lol You will run into players at the strangest places. Places where you think no one would be there. We traveled north one time -- pretty deep into the forest -- and was ambushed from behind by a single person with an assault rifle. The guy laid some bullets on me first and broke my leg. lol So, I was stuck to crawling and it took us a few seconds to identify where the gunfire was coming from -- it was from behind us. I told my friend to turn around and we exchanged gunfire with the guy. He ended up killing my friend first while I emptied 3 clips of pistol bullets. We exchanged fire some more and he got me before I got him. Last edited by MrWD; 08-09-2012 at 07:33 AM.. |

This video of a guy running into an ax-murderer is pretty funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjS8yjBHutk The dude starts to sing reading rainbow while chasing the victim. May be staged, but still pretty funny. |
