So much for that freebie, I used an old cell phone number when this was first posted that's no longer in service. I won't give my current one because I don't want text messages

I thought the same thing, but google voice won't text to those shortened, non 10 digit numbers - "86677"

you don't have to text that number. They must have realizes that everyone was using fake numbers, as I did when I signed up. However I used my real email and got that email as well. I then texted that number from my real number (not the one used to sign up) and I got back a message saying that I was confirmed and I would get my towel. Meaning that they didn't confirm anything lol, that all they did was actually get my phone number this time. So they are just doing it to get the real phone numbers this time, not sure if the towel will really come or not but it will come either way, if you "confirm" as they ask you to do , or not.
