Looking at the picture, it looks like it has the WR-version of the 18-55mm lens, which is a pretty good deal.

OTOH, its quite hard to ignore that Nikon D5100 deal from Sears becuase of the almost $400 price difference.

Very difficult indeed. I know I'll enjoy the WR for sure so perhaps a good compromise is a K30. Just not sure if it is better in most respects to the D5100 but it sure has more features and less than the $400 difference.

none of the other dslr makers have a WR kit lens on a crop body. seems kinda stupid to WR a crappy lens.

Thanks OP and repped!. I have finally pulled the trigger after hesitating a few times in the previous deals. I am extremely pleased with its build quality after testing it out at Frys.

The thing that irritates me the most is that, at least on Amazon, there ain't a lot lenses for Pentax. The ones I was looking at, like the sigma 150-500mm only has canon, nikon, or sigma mount, and tamron also only run canon, nikon or sony mount for the $100 rebate. Of course, that's just Amazon. But the fact that I might need to pay more for each lens I get kind of eat the saving of buying this. The Sony A77 kit for $1300 might just be the better choice then. It is a WR body too? (that expired, I know) Sony also has a built-in GPS, which is quite a useful feature for road trip. When I upload pics from my phone, I can see the location on my skydrive.
