Ferrari 458 Spider Driver Runs Over Cop's Foot

But the foot was outside the driver's line of site and it's not like he could feel the pressure of the foot on the tire. I'd expect a cop to do something like that too, but it's dumb.

You're not alone.
The cop was being an ass. (not to give a pass to the driver)
If the cop is writing a ticket, he does not need the car to stay.
It would be no different than if the guy came minutes later and drove off while ripping up the ticket.
The ticket would still be sent to the drivers home.
The cop was purposely putting himself in front of the car and trying to stick his foot under the tire.
I don't think that it would be department policy to do such a thing under any circumstance unless there were exigent circumstances and clearly there wasn't.
Cop should be disciplined and or fired because he seems like a much bigger problem waiting to happen.
The driver should have to pay his ticket unless he can show he wasn't parked illegally.

AFAIK, if a cop tells you to stay where you are temporarily, you are obliged to follow his direction when driving on the public streets.

AFAIK you should never run over anyone's foot intentionally unless they pose an immediate threat to your life.

One could argue that he didn't know the cop's foot was there but he clearly was about to bump the cop out of the way with his car. I believe he even did nudge the cop. I don't see how he could get out of this mess unless he gets a judge who was a victim of police brutality and thus sympathetic to his treatment. Not that I believe this was Police brutality.

I just rewatched it a few times and it is not clear to me that the car actually moves after he's told to stop.

Hey when you can't afford something, but got gov't powers, you can just punish and pushover someone with you "bully" badge

funny how you run over a guy's foot, yet he was still able to pull out the guy from the car, throw him on top then throw him to the ground, cuff him and call backup... Then all of a sudden full to the ground and wrench in pain... WOW is that not some great acting

The car weighs 3274 lb. The front/rear on that car is 42 front 58 rear. So 1375 on the front axle. He is only hit by one tire which is only 687 lbs. Usually over something as low as a foot, the suspension (even a stiff one) will place about half the weight on the inside and half on the outside (assuming the middle doesn't touch at all which is conservative). This puts the total weight on the foot at a meager 343 pounds. This is a lot of weight if you drop it on the foot, but this is a slow run over.

You don't see it in the video but reports are that he'd previously been outside and was told why the ticket was being written and tried to "snatch" the book away from the cop. He'd gone back inside and what you see in the vid is when he'd returned. No idea whether that's reality but that's how it's been reported quite a few places.

I read that too, but don't buy it at this point. I would have expected a greater reaction than just standing around continuing to write the ticket while the guy gets into the car if those things happened prior.

Yeah, we used to do that as kids. You definitely can feel it but it really doesn't hurt. Think fat guy standing on your foot for a sec. Not even that much really given that the full weight is distributed over a wider area and isn't concentrated right on your foot. Not to say that you couldn't get hurt if it ran over it right.

But he bumped the cop. You don't consider that assault?

It seems to me that moving in front of the car is a clear, though not verbal, command to not move.
