^ So it makes sense to pay $9k more for the Toyota, er Lexus LS460 - just for the espresso? (Now, that's stupid).
Not that Equus owners have to ever set foot in a dealership since at home/work pick-up and delivery is included (service that only some Lexus dealerships provide). |

Don't get me wrong.... Lexus is a fine company that offers a smooth ride, but Hyundai is becoming a force to be reckoned with, and honestly, to placate brand-name conscious people like you, they should created their own lux brand like Toyota did with Lexus long ago (and Honda did with Acura, and Nissan with infiniti, etc) |

If you have money, you are not driving a Hyundai. 95% of the people that buy them do so because they are cheap. They might be reliable/smooth ride/etc as well, but that isn't why they are purchased by the majority that own them. I doubt many companies that offer cars to their executives get too many requests for Hyundais. Oh and Motortrend is a joke, they simply bow to whoever pays the most with who is going to be "car of the year" to keep the advertisers happy. It means absolutely nothing. |

Chevy gets the dubious honor of having the most disliked car of all: http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/10/a.../index.htm |

A status symbol is more the maker than the model. Chevrolet is higher than Hyundai in this regard. Sure, Hyundai is trying to move up - the quality is not in question - and they are increasing price to help along. Will it work? It really hasn't yet. But only time will tell. And again, I am not knocking the quality of the Hyundai. I am simply pointing out a fact of life. It is very hard to become a status symbol of success. There are a lot of makers at the top that you'd have to topple. BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Hyundai cannot compete with those for status, and again, probably never will. |

In your opinion. I know plenty of people who equate chevy to the "cheap" brand of GM, now that Pontiac and Saturn are history. GM just screams cheap with lots of rental/fleet sales that drives down resale value. Plus a lot of people are migrating to Ford after GM and Chrysler took gobs of bailout money and left taxpayers on the hook. Again, it's subjective, but I would drive a Hyundai any day over a Chevy, and I know plenty of people like me. Hyundai has higher-end cars than anything Chevy produces. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPhJrhVuMkg It sounds like you don't really know anything about cars and more just about status symbols. Replace "Hyundai" with "Apple" in your quote and car with "computer", and try reading again. Apple almost went bankrupt if Microsoft did not bail them out in the early nineties. Look where they are now. Japanese cars (and their products in general) used to be verbotten for anyone to buy back a long time ago as they used to be considered "crap" to American cars. Point is Hyundai has had like 2 years at this luxury car thing (in the US anyway). Acura has been around since 1986 and Lexus has been around 1989 (their respective brands anyway). So they've had 2 decades to pretty much tell the world that they are a standard. I'll see you in 10 years and we'll see who was right on who makes a "good" car and has become a status symbol.. |
