1600x900 is not a low res for laptops in the first place, and on screen this small, its already high enough.

Not only that, windows 7 laptops arent iPads. Scaling sux. Any higher resolution is pretty useless.

I honestly sometimes even prefer the 1366x768 on my x220 over my Samsung series 9 cuz everything is too small even for my 20/20 vision.

Interesting. I've always debated with myself about which one to get, x220 or 13.3 inch series 9. Could you elaborate on your use experience?

I currently use a W520 laptop, it's pretty good to travel to conferences, but for carrying everyday to work, I'd like something lighter and smaller. The only thing that is holding me back from buying the x220 with IPS is the thickness and low resolution. It seems that from your experience the low resolution might not be a bad thing....well the x220 does have a smaller screen than the series 9 (12.1 vs 13.3).

from x220 and on, the screen size is actually updated to 12.5. but for some reason the size difference seems huge between the two, the resolution probably has a lot to do with it.

Aside from the resolution, as far as screen goes, the samsung PLS blows the x220's IPS out of the water.

Honestly both are pretty darn good for day to day usage although you just cannot beat the tracknav (i'm just a huge tracknav fanboi, and honestly what comes close to it?) and x220's legendary keyboard. Samsungs keyboards are indeed too shallow for my taste, which is about the only thing that I dont really like about the s9, but its definitely OK to deal with, its just that i'm so used to thinkpads keyboards is all.

Another thing, its just my OCD but, is that for every day usage, I just cannot see myself using something thats as pretty and delicate as this samsung 9 (I dont mean that its fragile or filmsy in anyway, its build is superb), becasue I just always want it to look prestine, absolutely flawless...I wouldnt be able to deal with mass smudges of fingerprints and what not, whereas with the thinkpads, its meant to be roughed around so it just makes me comfortable using the thinkpads than the series 9...

I'm always looking for dusts and blowing them off, cleaning the thing off every 2 minutes or so when I'm using the s9.

I heard about samsung's wifi problem was actually due to a bloatware, but I tend to do a clean install of windows 7 so that shouldn't be a problem. Lenovo's driver support from their website are pretty comprehensive.

It saddens me to learn that thinkpad IPS is not as good as the new series 9's screen. For me, personally, I am OK with DIY a bit on upgrading RAM and replacing HDD with SSD, but screen is not very easily replaceable and that's kinda a big deal for me to have the best -class screen.

Oh, and since the x230, the legendary thinkpad keyboard will be gone and replaced with chiclets that's similar to the ones of series 9. what a shame.

depending on where you live, the MS store is still cheaper, and if you go there you get it "today"
also, i would point out that $100 amazon gift card is not the same as an item actually being $100 less (at least in my opinion)
i pay 7% tax, so 1040+ 72 =1112.80 out the door
amazon = 1250 out the door.
