I need a new laptop for work and want an awesome deal for an awesome machine. So far, I LOVE the feel of the macbooks and Samsung 7/9 machines. However, choosing the best value for money/usability/portability compromise is difficult.
I need something portable, durable, decent screen, presentable for business meetings, reasonable in price/value, and powerful enough to do casual 1080p video editing and gaming.
At the moment I purchased open box Macbook Air for $1070 with tax. It's like new with unregistered warranty and the manager gave me free HDMI converter ($25 retail) and $20 in BestBuy rewards (so the final price for it is more like $1030 taxed). So far, I'm still new to Mac OS, but I'm really liking it. Problem is, I think I might need to pay more money for Windows, don't know yet if Mac OS will be enough for my needs.
So to sum it up:
MacBook Air - $1030 taxed. Keep or return?
pros: Mac OS, super SEXY, decent screen colors, nice price, good resale value.
cons: new to Mac OS, low res screen, slightly under powered for my needs, sucks with Windows on and it's extra money if I need it.
Samsung 9 13" NEW model for $1140 taxed.
pros: Lightest and most portable of them all, SEXY, good res screen, amazing batter life, quick boot time.
cons: Expensive, slightly under powered for my needs
Samsung 9 13" Previous Gen for $850 taxed (after cashback and selling xbox).
pros: Good value, Lightest and most portable of them all, SEXY, good res screen, amazing batter life, Samsung SSD, quick boot time.
cons: Very much underpowered for my needs - gaming and video editing might not be possible, previous gen.
Samsung 7 15" Previous Gen for $740 taxed. (after cashback and selling xbox)
pros: Excellent build quality, extremely powerful (maybe even overkill for my needs), awesome battery life for the specs, best value, sorta like the larger screen, lots of HD space
cons: Not an ultrabook (a bit too bulky and heavy for maximum portability), previous gen, might have wifi/track pad problems, small SSD (1tb/8gb ssd hybrid).
Asus Zenbook Prime 13" i5 Ivy bridge for $900 taxed.
pros: Good value, amazing 1080p ISP screen, very portible
cons: Not a big fan of the Air rip-off design, not a fan of Asus products, slightly under powered for my needs.
Macbook Pro 13" latest gen @ Frys for $1080 taxed.
pros: decent value for new MBP, solid and sexy design, good resale value, Mac OS is cool, good specs for my needs, upgradable
cons: expensive for the specs, sorta heavy and thick for the size, might need windows, have to overcome Mac OS learning curve, crap res screen, no SSD
That pretty much covers it, so please help me choose from the above or suggest a new deal if I overlooked something. Thanks!
