are these internal hard drives faster than externals? and how much more extra do i have to spend to get the case? my imac is running out of space...need to get an extra hard drive asap.

well i've had issues with both, however both have excellent customer service.

newegg's warehouse in NJ has played by the tax rules since day 1 of being in NJ - amazon has been avoiding paying sales tax in both PA and NJ forever and only starting this fall will they start to due to state law (and a resulting backdoor agreement)

I installed this drive about 1 month ago after buying a 2TB Seagate drive which showed errors on SeaTools. I recommend running the brand's diagnostic tool once you install a drive just to get some peace of mind. I have no complaints from this drive. It's not 7200rpm, I don't believe, but I haven't notice any slowness between it and my other 7200rpm drive (Caviar black). It's quiet unlike the Seagate I got which is the only drive I've ever noticed sound coming from, although that could've been because it was bad.

This is tempting, but I am holding out for the 2TB Reds to come back into stock.

Manufacturers literally just slap a case over an internal hard drive, aside from a different SKU label and serial number. Cases vary in price depending if you just want to get the job done or want to put a slab of aluminum over it.

I'd like to put four of these in a RAID 5 on a HP N40L with the P212 RAID controller. Are these green drives going to give me any grief in that type of a configuration?

I wouldn't put green drives in any type of RAID configuration, except maybe something simple like RAID 1. Not to say you can't but they tend to park their heads a lot more often than say WD Black or Red drives. So you have a chance of the SMART data misleading you or because RAID 5 is via parity, something can go wrong. Depends on how important your setup is. Sometimes you really shouldn't cheap out. Your call though.

Can't you run a WD utility to reduce or disable the head parking?
