Both are quite good. I was also using MSE but switched to Avast. As fas as free ones go, those two are top of the line. ESET's AV is superb; not sure about their firewall Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

Malwarebytes is good for lifetime with updates, etc. How long is this good for? - Edit. Answer is one year.
I'm not confident in Malwarebytes as it failed to clean the sirefef virus that causes your pc to reboot every minute and does all kinds of other nasty stuff. Worst virus I every caught. Ended up doing a clean install, which was needed anyhow, when Acronis Home failed to restore to SSD from standard HD; a known issue. Malwarebytes is highly lauded though and it's possible if I had it installed before getting the virus I would have been okay. I won't pay a yearly subscription fee for one of these programs though so if it's just a year IMO I would rather restore my system, lol. Edit: btw I was using Microsoft Security Essentials when I got the sirefef virus and it was putty in its hands. MSE was literally useless. Last edited by lixivix; 08-08-2012 at 12:27 PM.. MSE is an antivirus and anti-malware program. It makes use of Windows firewall if you don't have another one installed.
Eset Smart Security is an internet security suite with antivirus, anti-malware, firewall, and some other features like parental controls. I really liked ESS when I used to use it. I liked having the robust firewall and being able to deny certain programs from accessing the internet. Nod32 and Smart Security both have a very small footprint compared to Norton and McAfee, but that's not as big of an issue nowadays with modern computers having a lot more RAM and processing power. After getting AdBlockPlus and NoScript, I've been fine with just AVGfree. |
