I have this motherboard:

My computer is around 3 years old, and will need an upgrade soon, but in the meantime, I'd like to upgrade my memory.

The memory standard on this board is 'DDR3 1666(OC)/1333/1066'.

I'm thinking of getting two packs of this, or the G.SKill Ares deal ongoing now

Any suggestions? I'd like to future proof this purchase which is why I was leaning for sticks of these. But then again, I'm not sure if I will even be able to use the memory to its fullest with my present board.

Last year I paid as little as $ 25 for DDR3-1600 16GB.(immorally applying the newcustomer code at newegg)
That was good times but I ended up amassing about 150GB of DDR3 that are still unused.
Don't buy it unless you really really really need it.

In modern computers the bottle neck comes mostly at the graphic card. Good ram does not really make too much difference unless you have an AMD APU which benefits from a speed up to 1866.

Usually "not cheap enough for me" means i expect it to go lower, not it'd be a pain to replace my current ram. why not just post in everythread "oo nice product, but I have X, so Y isn't cheap enough".

point being, this is THE best bang for your buck ram on the market, so its bordering on impossible to be "not cheap enough". maybe when ddr4 comes out

are you actually implying this ram would bottleneck a GPU? Pretty sure bottenecking would be from the VRAM on the actual card....

i've run mine at CL6 1600

Unless you're using onboard gpu or an avid OCer, the extra bandwidth has little benefit on real world. So just get a cheaper ram instead. This ram is good for its great OC potential but otherwise, a cheap $30 RAM could do about the same.

GREAT pair of sticks. Simply amazing. 30nm, 1.35v, oc like hell on wheels yet run cool. May not be a "holy shit" price, but cheap enough for the sick performance you get. Nobody should ever hesitate purchasing them.

It's not really the absolute BEST bang for your buck. The extra performance from getting this stick vs the 17AR stick that was on sale yesterday night is marginal. Paying almost 60% more for RAM that can only perform maybe 1-5% faster (5% is exaggerating a bit). I know these can hit up to 2400Mhz but that's just a number.

It's only the BEST bang for your buck for a person who overclocks as a hobby. This kit has been on "sale" various times this year for $40. So much so that I personally consider it as the normal price.

Many people post information that does not help others with comments like, "In for one" , "I wish there was a Microcenter or Fry's near me", "My wife is going to kill me", etc." I too always wondered why people posted comments like that. But then I realized, If it weren't for these people, this forum would be lifeless.

LOL. Actually the other way around. Most ram today, at least above 1333, is fast enough so that the system bottle-necks on the graphic card instead.

If you are into shoot'em up types of games then it may occasionally bottle-neck at other places like CPU or Ram, hard drive/SSD etc.

And you have been unjustly harsh on the other poster. What is worth, what is a good deal is a subjective judgment and this forum is all about what is a good deal. He had every right to express what is worth for him since it is likely that many others share his view and may benefit from knowing it.

No, he's implying that:

1. You can get a better deal than $5/gb on DDR3 RAM (yes, simplistic comparison).

2. The opposite of what you said; RAM in many modern systems is NEVER the bottleneck anymore.

3. With the above points, the OC potential of these sticks and real-world performance results are NOT as linked as this deal discussion seems to indicate.

Will this memory OC well for a i5-3570K with the Asrock Extreme4 from Microcenter? I feel like a noob asking this... been so long.

yup im with you on that, ram will only drop more in price as newer tech comes around.. it will go a bit lower, if you need ram now and dont want to wait get it now, but if you are buying it because you think its slick to hoard ram guess again.. But on the up side pr0n and browing is much more pleasant
