I haven't unplugged a single thing in the last 15 years and the only thing that ever got fried was my cable box (about 10 years ago). That said, according to the NOAA, approximately 30 million cloud-to-ground lightning strikes occur every year with most occurring over the midwestern and southeastern states so if you live in those areas, you probably want to be a bit more cautious than the rest of us.
I have degrees in both animal behaviorism and psychology and have come to the conclusion that animals make a hell of a lot more sense than people.

Though ducking does help or so my mind lets me believe. We have brownouts all the time and some states in the south are far worse than others to the point where it's just another common occurrence like the change in the direction of the wind. The midwest may be tornado country but we welcome you all to hurricane country.

I knew a kid in grade school who had bit through a electrical cord as a toddler and had was left with a scar in the corner of his mouth. |
