I know what you mean. I tried this for the last couple of weeks. It took me a while to figure out my bios was rsa signed. screw hp!

Might be a little off topic but is there a way to connect two routers into one cable modem. In other words, is there such a thing as a splitter to split one ethernet plug into two?

I was thinking of getting this router for the dual ssid but maybe I can save some money and connect two routers that I have lying around, instead?

Why not connect one router to the modem and the 2nd router to the 1st router as an access point (i.e. WAN port not used)? You can then set each router to whatever SSID you wish.

Well ... I was hoping to make one ssid/router for guests so that whatever they surf and catch on their pc, doesn't compromise my own/private network. Not sure if that makes sense. I'm new at this network stuff.

If you flash this router to DD-WRT, you can use these instructions to setup a guest network that is separate from your private network.

So I guess the next question is: DD-WRT or Tomato?

Just my two cents: I bought this router about a month ago and decided to try the stock firmware first. Wired connections worked fine, but the wireless signal kept cutting out and dropping the connections (tested on two laptops in the same room as the router).

Due to positive experiences with DD-WRT in the past I then flashed the DD-WRT big build and it worked okay for a couple days but then developed the same problems. So, I flashed the mini DD-WRT build and had the same results as with the big. And, yes, before anyone asks, I performed a 30-30-30 reset after each flash.

I then found the thread here on SD suggesting Tomato (http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/7...600f7d8301) and decided to give it a shot, and it has been absolutely flawless since then. Wireless has been rock-solid for better than two weeks now, and hooking up a couple of USB drives worked with no problem (they kept cutting out in DD-WRT, but I didn't try them with stock).

I'm new to Tomato, but it's awesome! The interface is a lot less complicated than DD-WRT (awesome for a networking novice), and most importantly, it's working great! Hopefully others having issues will have the same success with Shibby's Tomato build... Good luck!
