Buy your daughter something that she will wear. I personally wear Nutcase helmets [nutcasehelmets.com] when riding around town, because even though they're hotter and don't fit my head as well they look *far* better. If she'll wear the Schwinn one, great, but if not look into spending a little bit more to get something she actually likes. $40 isn't that much when you consider what a head-injury would cost you.

Not really the same style (or manufacturing technique) and would certainly be hotter, but all helmets have to pass the same CPSC tests. That goes for cheap-o $15 ones at WalMart to $250+ ones on Tour athletes. Buy on looks, ventilation and fit.

Had this helmet... broke when I fell on my head mountain biking. It did its job. Good!

I LOVE this helmet. It's comfortable, fits well and looks good. Was astonished to receive such a great helmet at a super low price. My girlfriend bought a helmet for $120 from a local store at the same time I got this one. heh..

check your walmarts. i looked at this a few months ago when i went to get a cheapo helmet (cause I ride trails on a military base often) and it is around 20$ all day. I would've gotten this one but I got a large melon and they didn't have my size. But this appeared to be a bit lower profile than the Bell I got.

I bought this same helmet last year. I'm not sure why it has Micro in the name though because this was the only helmet that fit my ginormous head!

I bought it in a local Meijer though so I was able to try it on first to make sure it fit me.

$40 *more* than the $18 one (sorry). They used to have them ~$40 before they put a fit system in, but with the fit system they're all up to ~$60.

You can also look into normal BMX-style helmets that are ~$30-40 (Bern, Bell etc) if you're looking for a more economical option. Just noticed that Bell's Faction is trying to pull off a Nutcase-style: Bell Faction on Amazon [amazon.com]
