I am interested, never had Uverse before.

I currently have DTV, what will the installation involve. I had cable years and years ago, but so many of the lines were switch and re-switched from switching from cable, to Dish to Directv.

If you get phone service, does that mean your phone stops working if the power goes out?

Also, since the receivers are wireless, if there is no Wifi signal does that mean the TV also goes down?

Also if there is a wireless receiver, can you move it from TV to TV and have 2 not frequently used TVs sharing that once receiver, or are receivers tied to specific TVs?

With Total Home DVR, does that mean everyone can see what is recorded on the DVR?

If you purchase your own cable modem from Amazon, do you still need to pay the $6/month rental fee?

What is the cancellation fee?

If one switches to Uverse, are you stuck? Like you can't go back to DSL after that.

thanks.

To Answer your questions..

what will the installation involve?
The majority of the time they just use the same wiring that is in your home. The installer will come out to your home, ask you where you want your TV's hooked up (Each TV does need its own receiver with U-verse) and the internet gateway. He may need to run some additional wiring into other rooms if you do not have cable jacks there already. If so, there is no charge for that. Generally, the install will take between 2-4 hours as he also has to switch over the outside connections.

If you get phone service, does that mean your phone stops working if the power goes out?
They do provide a Backup Battery with the U-verse service, which I believe lasts for aprox. 8 hours of use (Don't quote me on that)

Also, since the receivers are wireless, if there is no Wifi signal does that mean the TV also goes down?
1 TV is required to be wired, the other wireless receivers have a small device that plugs into the back of the AT&T gateway which outputs the signal to the wireless receivers via the ethernet port, so if you lose wi-fi it shouldn't affect the TV service as well.

Also if there is a wireless receiver, can you move it from TV to TV and have 2 not frequently used TVs sharing that once receiver, or are receivers tied to specific TVs?
You can move it from TV to TV. All you need for each TV is an power outlet and either an HDMI or component cable to hook up the TV as well, which allows you to move the receiver wherever you want whenever you want.

With Total Home DVR, does that mean everyone can see what is recorded on the DVR?
Correct. Whatever one person records on the DVR, everyone else can see and can access throughout the home at any TV, regardless of what TV the recording was originally recorded on.

If you purchase your own cable modem from Amazon, do you still need to pay the $6/month rental fee?
AT&T does require you to use their own specific gateway, which is a 2Wire gateway. The model that is used at least up to the 12MBPS is the Motorola NVG510. They may or may not use a different gateway for the 18MBPS + speeds. However, if you purchase that one on your own, you should be able to avoid the $6/month rental fee no problem.

What is the cancellation fee?
Since the promotions require a 1 year contract, the Cancellation fee starts at $180, and goes down $10 each month you keep the service (If you have the service for 1 month, it goes down to $170, 6 months $120, etc.)

If one switches to Uverse, are you stuck? Like you can't go back to DSL after that.
Since AT&T is seeming to be pushing customers away from DSL because its older technology and the speeds are slow (6 MBPS max), odds are you will probably not be able to go back to it..if the U-verse service for some reason is just not working properly, there may be a way to get swtiched back over, but most likely not.

I hope this helps! Smilie

Also a heads up for San Francisco/San Jose subscribers,

New customers can receive free HD for 6 months, bringing the total price down to $85/mo for the double play for 6 months ($95 for the next 6 months) or $110 for the triple play for the first 6 months ($120 for the next 6 months)

This is the only area that I know of that receives this special promo!

Also added to the wiki, if you are an existing U-verse customer and refer someone else to sign up, you can get $25 per service they sign up for (Ex. Someone gets TV & internet, you get $50, as well as the person signing up).

Right now it is $50 a service, but it looks like that ends today, 4/30.

The website to look at it is:

uverse-refferals.att.com [att.com]

Basically more cash back for everyone!

If you are needing to be installed in June, you can always set up an installation date for June, even though you are signing up in April/May to ensure you get the promotions. nod

A FAN number is basically a discount applied to your cell phone account which gets you a monthly discount off of your cell phone service. You wouldn't get a monthly discount off of your U-verse service, but you would get the additional $150 cash back by having one! nod
