Raw selvedge is just not the same as other kinds of material. It's not even much like the regular Levi's you'll find these days in stores. It is very thick and very rigid--the sturdiest, most rugged kind of fabric you're likely to encounter on a garment. That's why jeans were originally made for coal miners as "waist overalls". They're designed to take a pounding and get messy.

Is it gross not to wash them frequently? Well... is it gross not to frequently wash the leather band on your watch? Is it gross not to wash your couch?

This isn't thin, highly absorbent material we're talking about, like a t-shirt.

I don't think he (or she) is suggesting that we follow the example of the person in the article, only showing that jeans don't need to be washed after every use, and that selvage denim should never go in the dryer. Useful information IMO.

I buy a lot of stuff online, but I don't know how anyone can buy jeans online unless they're ordering what they already have. The variance in waist and length of jeans that are supposed to be the exact same size is astounding.

I know, thats why I said once a month.
If I wanted to wear my jeans for a month without washing them, I would be divorced, disowned, and unfriended.. and I would deserve it. lol

In regard to some of the designer brands or selvedge denim, a lot of jeans won't provide the length. They're usually made a bit long because some people like to wear them with a cuff and you're expected to get them hemmed to fit you. The waist size should be standard, but the thing you really have to pay attention to is the "fit" of the jeans. For example, if the type of jeans is listed as "skinny" or "slim" fit than they will be tight fitting all over your legs even if the waist size is correct. Usually if you purchase your correct waist size in a "straight" style fit, they should fit like normal, but again, they might be too long depending on your height and could need to be hemmed.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with washing jeans once a month*. I'd guess that's actually fairly common.

* caveat: if you regularly go commando, then this is indeed disgusting.
