I have the 6870 version of this card with the same cooler. It was very quiet when I first got it. Now it causes my case to resonate sometimes and is very annoying. Overall though it is very quiet and keeps temps low. Neither the 6870 nor 6950 are particularly hot cards anyway.
This is a pretty good deal considering it is the 2GB version. When I bought my 6870 last year it was $199 after rebate and didn't come with any free games. BTW xfx is okay with rebates. They take a little while to send it back but eventually you will get it in the form of a prepaid card you can use pretty much everywhere. Considering you can buy Deus EX Human Revolution for $12 and Battlefield 3 for $34 right now on amazon.. $12 + $34 = $46 $178 - $46 = $132 You are still paying $132 for a last generation card. And you have to wait for the $30 rebate to come in the mail. Mind you that is about $40 less than you can find the 2gb version even used on ebay or anywhere else. Since the card is discontinued they are obviously trying to clear out their stock to make room for the 7950s, 7970s, 7870s and 7850s. I was considering upgrading to this and selling my 6870 on ebay. But according to my calculations I would be spending about $78 and a good amount of time for a minor upgrade and two games I would probably never play. I think I'll pass. I had a Saphire Rage LT pro laying around somewhere... not to mention I have at-least one friend who had a Radeon 9600 pro made by them years ago. Heck. I have a HD2600 AGP sitting on the shelf from them--suffered a driver issue that made it almost unusable at release (Then again, that was apperently ATI/AMD's fault long story short) But yeah, their quality has always been pretty solid. And customer service. Well. Only once ever had to deal with them and it was on a crazy issue ;P But in short, Sapphire has been making video cards longer than XFX has existed. XFX started in 2002--Sapphire started sometime around the same time 2D gpu's started having significantly differing preformance if not earlier. Last edited by RogueThunder; 08-11-2012 at 09:41 AM.. |

I currently have a PC that I built in 08 with Intel Q6000, HD4870 and WD Black 500GB. I don't really game as much as I used to, but it would be nice upgrading gfx card to be able to play some latest games. Do you guys think this is a worth upgrade without upgrading cpu/mobo? I have a Antec TPQ-850 850W PSU so I'd be ok with handling this card.
EDIT: I already have BF3 so free games don't really make it much of a slicker deal for me. EDIT 2: I have ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX mobo that has: 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, support ATI CrossFireX technology at x8 link (black at max. x8 link) But this card says PCI Express 2.1 x16 Last edited by ninor; 08-11-2012 at 10:20 AM.. |
