Only 8 amps of load per outlet is a huge drawback. Many of your major appliances require more than 8 amps to run. Look for a generator with at least 15 amp breakers to run refrigerators, window a/c units, etc. Plenty of wattage to run basic essentials like lights and fans, so this would be a good generator for that, but not to run anything large. Remember, volts x amps = watts, so it would be tough to max this thing out with such small breakers, unless you wanted to run a bunch of spotlights on it.

As a backup emergency generator, the reviews at Home Depot were, overall, very good for this unit. Many posted that they tested 'large' appliances without having any problems.

The 8 amp rating is for the 12V DC "outlet" to charge a battery or run 12v units. The 120 VAC current ratings are not actually stated but the total output is 25A so it should handle 15 Amp quite nicely.

If your home uses gas appliances, as mine does, this thing is more than enough. If I turned on every single thing in my house, every appliance, every (CFL or LED) light, I doubt it would exceed 3000 Watts. OK, no toaster

OTOH, 120V two space heaters would kill it.

having a generator here is a matter of survival(new orleans) .my 18k watt is not going anywhere. i just see having a law to prevent people for owning a generator that they might use once a year is just plain dumb.. i agree cars should alway be push to be more efficient.. things you use every day.. generators efficient does not seem to be a pressing issue that needs to be regulated..

I am a retard. I read the title like 3 times....I kept thinking it was a "gasoline generator" not a "Generator that runs on gasoline" I was like i didnt even know this was possible to make your own gas at home...ahahah wow

3000 watts can power a 25a breaker..biggest problem with genertors is start up power.. some things like a refrigerator take so much power to start up... but would run fine one they get going...
