1) Is this worth upgrading from a 6950 2GB version for gaming?

2) Can this do two or three 27" monitors each 2560x1440 resolution?

i would upgrade from 6950 to 7850 if i have enough money more efficient, less power draw, and faster also.

All the ATI cards I've looked at have only one dual DVI which can handle up 2560x res and one single DVI which can only handle up to 1920x, this one included. You won't be able to use both DVI's at those resolutions.

You could hook up a 2560x monitor to the DP interface if the monitor has built-in displayport.

If your monitors are DVI-D only , there are Displayport to DVI-D adapters but the ones than are able to output 2560x1600 are almost $100 and require a USB port for extra power. Many reviewers complain about the adapters having screen flicker issues so YMMV on such adapters.

Nvidia cards do not have eyefinity, of course, but many do come with dual DVI-D... I'm using a Nvidia 560 right now running two 30" monitors at 2560x1600 each and a third monitor at 1920x1200 running off the motherboard's onboard DVI interface (which is single DVI). When I first tried to run 3 monitors, I got blue screens, but recent driver updates are stable enough to run my Nvidia/Intel combo now. I'm waiting impatiently for the 660ti
