I tried this out for several days. It did display more hotspots, but I was unable to connect and get (reliable if at all) access to the internet. Anyone with same experience?
I got this for a friend last week (because of SD!) and she said it displays LESS access points than with her built-in laptop wireless thing (she has a Lenovo G770 with all standard components). Did I gift her something that's not very compatible with her laptop, or this product is overrated?
Evi1d33d: I've used this adapter for a year now and though you can see a lot more wifi spots but you are not guaranteed that you can connect to them. I actually got slower connection speed compared to my internal wifi card on my netbook on a particular wifi spot. This adapter is popular with hackers but it's not particularly good for everyday use.
Make sure to grab the latest driver from:

wouldn't a N wireless work faster and GO FARTHER and is 1w for WiFi a battery killer |

It will drain your battery sure, but IMO the impact will be barely noticeable. The equivalent of having 2 USB devices plugged in and running. |

Just ordered... I will let you guys know how this performs vs the N adapter! Just an FYI on my setup, I have the Alfa R36 which takes the signal this thing picks up and re-broadcasts it as my own personal network. Not bad!

In for 1. Thanks OP. I've been using a few of those low profile USB adapters in my HTPC except that the cabinet unit gets very hot and eventually the signal cuts out. Been looking at getting one of these and just bolting it to the back of the cabinet to remedy the problem
