Well, good for you. I have been following these deals ever since I first saw them in SD. I did see some 15" MBPs with "Used - Good" , " Used - Very Good" for the $1k price tag. The closest I noted for a "Used - Like New" for 15" MBP was $1235 last Friday. Maybe I missed a mid-day price drop that you picked up.

The "Like-New" per most SDers is basically new, so I am not sure if that compares to a "refurb" and the price with Tax is probably about the same. However I do respect the Apple stamp on their refurbs.
