![]() Otherwise, I would tend to agree with this post and probably go this route because you'd get a much better setup than the HP for about the same price. The only things are 1) you'd have to put up with piecing together the computer yourself 2) forgo a DVD drive 3) you're on your own for a legit copy of Windows But what you'd gain is (And these are key to a computer) 1) Much better CPU 2) More RAM Anyway, I guess this discussion would be moot assuming he's in the SF area, thus no MC nearby.... thus the HP deal is really good for $170... add the $48 GPU from Amazon and you have a computer very capable for LoL. |

If thats too much over the budget, I would skip the 8gb memory and get just a 2gb ram for $10 or cheaper on ebay, just make sure its a Kingston, Samsung, Hynix, or Elpida 1333mhz/1600mhz, these are the most compatible brand with most OEM system builder like HP, 4gb total memory should be more than enough especially with a dedicated graphic card. Radeon HD5570/6670 is also another video card option if you can wait for a sale, Nvidia GT240, you can ebay it around $30, both these cards are a step below the HD6670 but can be had for cheaper if you need to save some money and they should be more then enough to handle LOL, again, this is all based on the $200 budget you mentioned, so I assume you need to cut it as lean as much as possible. |

. $200 is a hard price range but it is doable. You want the best bang for the buck though, especially since he will be gaming a little. I would suggest you sign up for tiger direct emails. Tiger direct is known for selling some killer barebone deals that would be right up your alley considering your price range.Right now they do not have any seriously good deals, but they frequently do (usually once a month or every 2 months). Here are some past examples. http://slickdeals.net/f/4895984-T...7-Shipping http://slickdeals.net/f/4802636-B...dle-263-AR http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/7...-mid-tower Otherwise if you have some time before your friends b-day you might wait until Windows 8 arrives as prices on current machines in store will drop. |

Anyway if you are not going with the HP route, your only options are to wait and buying every piece one by one when they are on big sale, that will take time and some luck depending on your time frame, or bid on Ebay, there are good deals to be had but again it takes time and luck, or you could just buy form me for $160, lol. Amd athlon II x3 2.9ghz Asus m5a78l-mlx mobo 4gb memory 160gb hdd nvidia gt430 I am joking, I know i am not supposed to sell anything on here so just scratch it, its pretty hard to build a gaming machine with your budget from what we have seen, so, either you wait for big sales on the parts you need or bidding on Ebay and search Craigslist would be a cheaper route, that is if you don't mind older parts. |

This would have been a good deal but is already sold out.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applic...0&csid=_61 Was $129.00 after rebates... $164.99 before. Just for the record, I hate rebates because of the illusion that you are paying the discount price NOW when you are in fact NOT and MIGHT get the money back if it is a good rebate. I try to look at thing in terms of what you will spend NOW. |
