Deal Details

Was looking for some good engine oil deal. Found this one to be lowest priced engine oil.

Free 2 day shipper with Shoprunner. You do have to pay tax. If you get over $100, you get a $15 gift card from Autozone.

Walmart sells the same jug for $26.xx + tax.

LINK: Mobil 1 5w20 Full Synthetic [autozone.com]

If you have BOA card, don't forget to activate the cash back deal in your bank account online. You get 5% cash back from Autozone.

If you do a mass order of 10+, you should see a $30+ AutoZone gift card pop up during checkout cart page. The more you buy, the bigger the Gift Card amount... I put in 99 just for laughs and the max you can get is $315 in GC.

NOTE: If your local zipcode does not show the lower price, use 32607. Set your preferred store to one near this zip code, then ship to home will get the discount no matter where it is.

DEAL IS DEAD Frown Good luck to those who got in on the deal!

Eh, I like sticking to what works for me.
Why don't you un-stick and use whatever works according to Audi?

If you buy a lot, remember to sign up for their reward program and split order in $50 multiples. After 5 purchases of $20 or more, they give you $20 GC.

Right now I'm using regular dino oil 5w-20 and change the oil about every 4,500 miles or so. With this synthetic oil, how often should I change the oil? What about the oil filter? Wouldn't it be too dirty for that long interval? Thanks for your advice.

Quick question, can I still go back to conventional oil after I used synthetics? my main concern is once I use synthetics (because its cheap now) and can't find any deals later on that I am stuck on using synthetics (more expensive), if that makes any sense.
These quotes are from Valvoline's website:

Can you go longer between oil changes if you use a synthetic blend or full synthetic motor oil?
Synthetic or synthetic blended oils are not intended to extend oil change intervals. These oils are recommended for use in harder working engines and to assist with gas mileage, not to extend service intervals beyond what the manufacturer recommends.

Is it ok to switch back and forth between regular and synthetic motor oil? I heard this causes leaks? Is this true?
Switching between synthetic and conventional oil does not cause problems. Because the oils are compatible, you can switch back and forth as often as you like.

Can you mix different types of motor oil? For example, synthetic and synthetic blend or regular and synthetic? Is this going to cause problems?
Mixing synthetic and conventional oils will not cause any problems. The oils are compatible with each other.

Are you guys signing up for shoprunner 30 day trial, and then cancel your membership after you receive the package? Like to know if that works before I order.

Yes, I'm sure granny driving hwy miles will be fine (civic hybrid FFS laugh out loud).

My bearings would be toasted very fast with this stuff.

I'm seeing 0w-40 mentioned several times in the TSB.

I recommend just sticking to a good 502.00 oil. Mobil 1 0W-40 is readily available if you are not into ordering online.

A 0w40, 5w40, and 10w40 will all perform the same at operating temperature, so you are not actually increasing the "weight" of the oil by switching between those three...

BTW, I don't wait 10,000 miles between changes. I change at 5,000. What are you running in your 2.0T? FSI or TFSI?

0w-40 is the only mobil1 that meets VW 505 standards. 5w-40 is the old 502 standards. IMO if they upgraded there standard. Then it was for a reason.

As long as the bottle is capped and kept dry, the product is safe to use for up to 5 years. Keeping it cool and dry are the key conditions to control degradation and additive drop-out.

for those asking about shelf life
