Is Paul Ryan a real fiscal conservative?

Just curious.

Do his actions support his words?

I'd like to learn more about him.

The answer is yes.

He isnt an extremist ideologue though, so the purists dont care for him.

A fiscal conservative would not kick millions of seniors out of Medicare, because he would know that these seniors would only end up seeking expensive emergency room care. Instead, he would do the miserly thing and give them guaranteed coverage so they could be treated more efficiently before problems become crises.

A fiscal conservative would not use the "savings" from kicking seniors out of Medicare to pay for tax cuts for the rich. Instead, he would preserve efficient programs like Medicare and raise taxes on the rich to pay down the debt.

He made a proposal to partially privatize SS in 2004. For that, I give him props. He is a pragmatic team player, so he has gobs of votes on his record that don't look so good in the Bush years.

In terms of medicare, I think you know that seniors don't cost a lot to treat because they don't go to regular check ups. They cost a lot because they are dying. The difference between Medicare and Medicaid is huge.

Actually the oldest baby boomers just became eligible for Medicare in 2011 so I don't think you can blame them for the deficient. Maybe their parents along with a couple of unfunded wars.

One thing that I like about Ryan is that he seems to be fairly scandal free so far.

The sleeping on a cot in his office thing makes for good press too (though the sincerity of it is hard to judge).

Ohhh...I get it. So gutting coverage doesn't matter as long as you call it "changes," right? So if your boss calls you into his office and tells you he's not firing you. Instead, he's "gradually reducing your salary to zero," it's all OK, is it not?

Call it what you want, but Ryan proposes to gut Medicare and turn it into a boondoggle as bad as Medicare Advantage--the bloated $700 billion taxpayer giveaway to for-profit insurers that George W Bush and the GOP created.
