Existing Monthly 4G Customers cannot get the deal - however they can activate the new phone and should be able to call in to transfer their previous account info into the new account.

I'll be answering questions here (also on the page linked below). Walmart does have these, look at the photos on the page. Ask someone competent in the Walmart Connection Center and ask if they have them in stock. They got the update on their computers last week (8/6/2012) on the deal and how it works. Stores received them between August 8th through the 13th - some earlier.

Adding this to clear up questions
There seems to be a lot of incorrect assumptions on here as well as a lot of misinformation being given. Let me clarify everything. Also, it would be worth reading the info listed in the source.

This deal works ONLY at Walmart stores in the Connection Center. Stores should have received them and should have the info tags posted next to their Walmart Family Mobile display. There are no additional discounts or rebates available on this. The Galaxy S II is $570 outright, so you are effectively getting this phone for $270 off already.

There are two separate ways to attain the Galaxy S II for $299 in store:
? Activate a Walmart Family Mobile account. This will require a $25 activation kit, which includes your WFM SIM card. For more info on that, view the source. Existing customers of WFM should be able to get this deal after confirming their account.

? Buy the Prepaid variant - aka, the T-Mobile Monthly 4G Branded Box. This includes the Prepaid SIM card in the box, which they will activate for you. You must get a monthly plan valued at $30 and up.

Not all stores have these phones yet, but that has to do with their ordering system and their competence.

Unlock

How to unlock this phone:

Call T-mobile (must speak to the Pre-paid department) and request an unlock code. If purchased at this price point, you will not be able to get an unlock code by faxing in a receipt if you have not had your account active for a minimum of 60 days. Once you have had a minimum of 60 days service AND load your account with a minimum of $10, submit your request and expect a response with the code via email in just a day or two. Alternatively, instead of loading your account with money you can not have refunded, simply pay for your third month of service and you will be become eligible for an unlock code. (If you try to circumvent these rules you will likely just run into HUGE headaches, T-mobile pre-paid customer service is TERRIBLE).

Memory

Strange. This is a T989 phone that shows only 768MB RAM and 12GB ROM, unlike the identified characteristics of 1GB/16GB. Not sure what to make of it.

Does not work on ATT
DOES NOT work with ATT prepaid data. Does not work at all, no 3G or 2G speed, nothing absolutely. If you are buying for that purpose, please dont waste your money. On the other hand, perhaps ATT customers may want to migrate/port their number to T-Mobile and use this awesome phone on their $50 monthly plan. Thats what I am going to do. F* ATT.
--thelatest2008
-- How can that be? Isn't this a 2G/3G/HSPA+ phone with both ATT & Tmo antennas/network stacks? Do you mean that the T989 is locked to Tmo, so you just have to buy an unlock code or wait for Tmo to unlock it?
-- Does the T989 have the same radio/network stack as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

With Apple winning the verdict in court won't these phones get blown off the shelf? I thought this might be a good deal a month ago but today I can't say it's a good deal now. T-mobile.com has been selling (check daily deal) the s2 for free with classic plan and only charges $200 to migrate to value plan just as an FYI.

If you're looking for a car mount , the Samsung Infuse 4G mount works perfectly for both SII and SIII ( I have both phones )

http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/...90308.html

For some reason, this does not fit my S2. Does not clip into place - might just be faulty, but it's going back.

It took some acrobatic talent to get it fit in, but didn't feel safe. Moreover, the mount didn't charge the SII with the original charger as well as a high-amp (HP TouchPad 2.0 A) charger.

A few questions

1. If i had to return this, which I ordered online, will I get the money back for just the Phone + taxes (Since card in non refundable?). Will Shipping be returned as well or that will not be refunded? This is about in store return.
2. Is it possible to unlock the S2 since it is T-MO prepaid?
3. I get from the threads I have been trying to read, I have to get my own sim from T mobiles site and activate it and then use the prepaid card T MO mailed me.
4. From the posts, I get there is a WFM version, the T MO version & the international version? What are the pros and cons and which one is better?

Thanks for advising.

So what are you guys doing with the $30 voucher? And any easy way to unlock it for international (EU) use?
email or chat with t-mo after 3 months and tell them you are traveling aboard. You will get the unlock code within 48 hours.

That's because Apple customers are suckers and will pay Apple's ultra inflated prices. Hell, when the iPods were $300 years ago I bought my wife an mp3 player that had a radio and more storage space and it was less than half the price of the iPod. It has nothing to do with their products being high quality or even a good product. Because they're not.
What? Apple products are way better in quality and a good product, but yes, the prices are inflated.

Had this phone for 6 months before switching to galaxy nexus. Its an awesome device just the phone needs to be charged everyday like most devices. Dsj's ROM is the best ROM out there.

Ssudarshan,

What's been your experience with G Nexus, better than SGII?

That old ancient OS has propelled Apple to the most valuable company in the world. iPhone has made more revenue in the last 4 quarters than all of Microsoft combined. LMAO

lol.

apparently ancient OS somehow equals revenue.

I would take revenue any day. I don't care if I'm selling old or ancient software. If it makes me the most valuable company in the world, who cares whether the OS is ancient? You can slap my face with that Smilie

Just a note, it does NOT come with a radio antenna which means no way to listen to your local radio other than using your dataplan. I guess not a big deal but good to know for those who count on that like myself

been pretty happy with GNexus so far. Haven't had to root as updates come from google directly, battery easily lasts upto 2 days. JB experience is pretty smooth, however volume is definitely not the greatest...there are some tweaks to improve but that requires rooting/custom ROM. Also camera on the GN could have been better.

From a data perspective, SII used to clock 10-12Mbps but now on GN it is only upto 3-4Mbps, possibly because the SII was fine tuned to work on Tmobile's frequency whereas GN is a pentaband device. One thing i noticed with the SII is does get warm if there are lot of parallel processes running not so much on the GN, perhaps due to the slower processor.

It's only a perception of quality. Apple products are Chinese made crap just like every other device is. Apple has one of the most effective marketing departments EVER. They are seriously geniuses.

Oh ok. I plan to just put my old sim in this new phone, copy all my contact from the old sim onto this new phone..put in the new sim and copy it from this new phone to the new sim.

----

This + $30 T-mobile prepaid + GrooveIP = Monthly savings

If buy it online, you do need to have the new SIM card acitvated, I did not even have to transfer my contacts as most of them were in my t-mobile account already and they just showed up Wink in my new SIM when the guy activated and transfer my phone/plan

Anyone know a way to use an application as a phone (that when people calls to my number the application rings or something like that) to use the data plan instead of minutes (tmobile wifi call does not do it as it does use minutes from plan)? the &30 unlimited web 100 min are just too few minutes.

Activating is easy. Just do it online at t-mobile website in a few steps.
