Details for In-Store Purchase:

Existing Monthly 4G Customers cannot get the deal - however they can activate the new phone and should be able to call in to transfer their previous account info into the new account.

I'll be answering questions here (also on the page linked below). Walmart does have these, look at the photos on the page. Ask someone competent in the Walmart Connection Center and ask if they have them in stock. They got the update on their computers last week (8/6/2012) on the deal and how it works. Stores received them between August 8th through the 13th - some earlier.

T-Mobile Prepaid Variant: 610214630810

Thanks to pacersman for the M4G UPC

Adding this to clear up questions
There seems to be a lot of incorrect assumptions on here as well as a lot of misinformation being given. Let me clarify everything. Also, it would be worth reading the info listed in the source.

This deal works ONLY at Walmart stores in the Connection Center. Stores should have received them and should have the info tags posted next to their Walmart Family Mobile display. There are no additional discounts or rebates available on this. The Galaxy S II is $570 outright, so you are effectively getting this phone for $270 off already.

There are two separate ways to attain the Galaxy S II for $299 in store:
¤ Activate a Walmart Family Mobile account. This will require a $25 activation kit, which includes your WFM SIM card. For more info on that, view the source. Existing customers of WFM should be able to get this deal after confirming their account.

¤ Buy the Prepaid variant - aka, the T-Mobile Monthly 4G Branded Box. This includes the Prepaid SIM card in the box, which they will activate for you. You must get a monthly plan valued at $30 and up.

Not all stores have these phones yet, but that has to do with their ordering system and their competence.

Unlock

How to unlock this phone:

Call T-mobile (must speak to the Pre-paid department) and request an unlock code. If purchased at this price point, you will not be able to get an unlock code by faxing in a receipt if you have not had your account active for a minimum of 60 days. Once you have had a minimum of 60 days service AND load your account with a minimum of $10, submit your request and expect a response with the code via email in just a day or two. Alternatively, instead of loading your account with money you can not have refunded, simply pay for your third month of service and you will be become eligible for an unlock code. (If you try to circumvent these rules you will likely just run into HUGE headaches, T-mobile pre-paid customer service is TERRIBLE).

Memory

Strange. This is a T989 phone that shows only 768MB RAM and 12GB ROM, unlike the identified characteristics of 1GB/16GB. Not sure what to make of it.

This deal has not been pulled from Walmart. They go in and out of stock both online and in stores.

Does not work on ATT
DOES NOT work with ATT prepaid data. Does not work at all, no 3G or 2G speed, nothing absolutely. If you are buying for that purpose, please dont waste your money. On the other hand, perhaps ATT customers may want to migrate/port their number to T-Mobile and use this awesome phone on their $50 monthly plan. Thats what I am going to do. F* ATT.
--thelatest2008
-- How can that be? Isn't this a 2G/3G/HSPA+ phone with both ATT & Tmo antennas/network stacks? Do you mean that the T989 is locked to Tmo, so you just have to buy an unlock code or wait for Tmo to unlock it?
-- Does the T989 have the same radio/network stack as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

With Apple winning the verdict in court won't these phones get blown off the shelf? I thought this might be a good deal a month ago but today I can't say it's a good deal now. T-mobile.com has been selling (check daily deal) the s2 for free with classic plan and only charges $200 to migrate to value plan just as an FYI.

If you're looking for a car mount , the Samsung Infuse 4G mount works perfectly for both SII and SIII ( I have both phones )

http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/...90308.html

For some reason, this does not fit my S2. Does not clip into place - might just be faulty, but it's going back.

It took some acrobatic talent to get it fit in, but didn't feel safe. Moreover, the mount didn't charge the SII with the original charger as well as a high-amp (HP TouchPad 2.0 A) charger.

I have an Exhibit II 4G on Walmart/T-Mobile's $30 unlimited data/text + 100min voice, but using GROOVEIP is laggy and has echo. I tweaked it for improvement, but I'd move up to the Galaxy S II if I can root it and put my SIM in it and have 4G. Will I get faster data, or is it limited to 3G?
I just visited my local Walmart and they had the tag for the Walmart Family Plan version. I didn't have time to ask if they had it in stock, but if this can be rooted easily and put on T-Mobile 4G, I'm in. Do I actually have to pay the $45 in service, or can I just root it before paying for service?
Oh and the excellent for the $$, Exhibit II 4G is $175 right now, if not cheaper if another QVC deal comes around.
GrooveIP voice quality depends mostly on latency. In most cases, cellular network speeds have high ping speeds that result in lagginess and echo. Your best option is to connect to a wifi network. I believe GrooveIP even states this in their T&C

I think the Galaxy S II is limited to 3G+ right now.
GrooveIP works for some, and not for others. S2 will do what T-Mobile calls 4G.It has a faster radio than the Exhibit.

T-mobile will block IMEI, and ATT will start near the end of this year

Apparently, T-Mobile has blocked some IMEIs on phones that were subsidized and the contracts left unfulfilled.
My bad. Just saw some pages confirming what you guys are saying. And apparently paypal is siding with the sellers on this one. So it definitely goes back to whoever said not to buy phones on eBay.

Any idea of actual 4G speeds on this S II? As far as realistic download speeds in big cities?

Paypal and eBay usually don't make claims easy, regardless of what the fancy symbols say. You can do a not as described claim with Paypal if you are lucky, but mostly Paypal just wants to see a tracking number and a signature if it's over $250.

Depends on the tower you are on. But, I got 5-8mbps avg down and around 1.5mbps up in big cities on postpaid. Some places I would get bursts of 12mbps+ and occasionally as high as 20mbps.

Has anybody actually purchased one in store yet?ConfusedConfused
I was just in a Walmart store and asked about the availability of this item and was told that none of the stores have them yet?Mad True or not true? I was also told that this will eventually be sold online after a store launch.

I really want to pick one up. Any info would be great.

Nice! That would be a heck of a lot better than the Virgin Mobile low run 3G I have now.

I saw a picture different from the OP's attachment in the WM I was in 30 minutes ago, so I'm wondering if they have stock now. There were literally 5 people in front of me trying to get a VM slider phone and other info, so I couldn't ask anything before I had to get back to work.

When I left Sprint in Feb, I was getting 300-400kbps, which is probably close to what you see. I live in the suburbs and I get 8-12mbps around town. But, when I go into larger cities the speeds slow a bit, but it is still so much better than Sprint. The only drawback is whenever I am outside of a 4G area, I usually only find 2G which is 100-200kbps roughly

The mobile tech reviewer on youtube said she was getting 12-13 mbps download speed. She reviews from the Dallas, TX area...

Here is that video link if you want to see the whole 17 minute review of the phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cIeG1EpTB4

She discusses the download speed at the 5:41 mark of the video, if you want to just focus on that.

Wrong Galaxy s2! That's the international version...this is the t-mobile version which has a bigger screeen (4.5") and a better CPU 1.5 ghz processor vs the inferior 1.2 on the Int'l version.

This T-mobile version came out later and is slightly better.
I have t-mobile S II, the screen is not 4.5"!
