Existing Monthly 4G Customers cannot get the deal - however they can activate the new phone and should be able to call in to transfer their previous account info into the new account.

I'll be answering questions here (also on the page linked below). Walmart does have these, look at the photos on the page. Ask someone competent in the Walmart Connection Center and ask if they have them in stock. They got the update on their computers last week (8/6/2012) on the deal and how it works. Stores received them between August 8th through the 13th - some earlier.

Thanks to pacersman for the M4G UPC

Adding this to clear up questions
There seems to be a lot of incorrect assumptions on here as well as a lot of misinformation being given. Let me clarify everything. Also, it would be worth reading the info listed in the source.

This deal works ONLY at Walmart stores in the Connection Center. Stores should have received them and should have the info tags posted next to their Walmart Family Mobile display. There are no additional discounts or rebates available on this. The Galaxy S II is $570 outright, so you are effectively getting this phone for $270 off already.

There are two separate ways to attain the Galaxy S II for $299 in store:
¤ Activate a Walmart Family Mobile account. This will require a $25 activation kit, which includes your WFM SIM card. For more info on that, view the source. Existing customers of WFM should be able to get this deal after confirming their account.

¤ Buy the Prepaid variant - aka, the T-Mobile Monthly 4G Branded Box. This includes the Prepaid SIM card in the box, which they will activate for you. You must get a monthly plan valued at $30 and up.

Not all stores have these phones yet, but that has to do with their ordering system and their competence.

Unlock

How to unlock this phone:

Call T-mobile (must speak to the Pre-paid department) and request an unlock code. If purchased at this price point, you will not be able to get an unlock code by faxing in a receipt if you have not had your account active for a minimum of 60 days. Once you have had a minimum of 60 days service AND load your account with a minimum of $10, submit your request and expect a response with the code via email in just a day or two. Alternatively, instead of loading your account with money you can not have refunded, simply pay for your third month of service and you will be become eligible for an unlock code. (If you try to circumvent these rules you will likely just run into HUGE headaches, T-mobile pre-paid customer service is TERRIBLE).

Memory

Strange. This is a T989 phone that shows only 768MB RAM and 12GB ROM, unlike the identified characteristics of 1GB/16GB. Not sure what to make of it.

Does not work on ATT
DOES NOT work with ATT prepaid data. Does not work at all, no 3G or 2G speed, nothing absolutely. If you are buying for that purpose, please dont waste your money. On the other hand, perhaps ATT customers may want to migrate/port their number to T-Mobile and use this awesome phone on their $50 monthly plan. Thats what I am going to do. F* ATT.
--thelatest2008
-- How can that be? Isn't this a 2G/3G/HSPA+ phone with both ATT & Tmo antennas/network stacks? Do you mean that the T989 is locked to Tmo, so you just have to buy an unlock code or wait for Tmo to unlock it?
-- Does the T989 have the same radio/network stack as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

With Apple winning the verdict in court won't these phones get blown off the shelf? I thought this might be a good deal a month ago but today I can't say it's a good deal now. T-mobile.com has been selling (check daily deal) the s2 for free with classic plan and only charges $200 to migrate to value plan just as an FYI.

If you're looking for a car mount , the Samsung Infuse 4G mount works perfectly for both SII and SIII ( I have both phones )

http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/...90308.html

For some reason, this does not fit my S2. Does not clip into place - might just be faulty, but it's going back.

It took some acrobatic talent to get it fit in, but didn't feel safe. Moreover, the mount didn't charge the SII with the original charger as well as a high-amp (HP TouchPad 2.0 A) charger.

I've had this phone for about 3 weeks now. After rooting and removing/freezing many un-needed apps/services (Titanium Backup Pro) I'm getting 3-4 days of standby with very lite use. I've posted links in this thread already, but start here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/f...php?f=1329

The above forum is specific to the T-Mobile T989 phone, the one in this thread.

I am running JediKnight v3 ROM at the moment. Very promising.

I do not use any task killers of any kind, other than CPU Sleeper, which turns off CPU 1 during sleep. BetterBatteryStats (free to XDA members) helped to track down battery sucking culprits too.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1179809

It's a lot of reading, but there are no short cuts worth taking. Learn, learn, learn.

My 2 cents

How to activate the Value plan card for the prepaid phone?
You place your SIM in the phone and call T-Mobile to activate. No cost to activate with the Value plan.

Ok I finally completed my process with T-Mobile

I was able to buy 2 Galaxy SII from T-Mobile website for $0, no mail in rebate and no activation fee (promotion Sunday night)

After a week in a half I successfully transferred the phones to the $30 prepaid Unlimited Data and Text (it needs to get approved by a "supervisor")

I only had to pay $200 ETF by phone plus 1.5 weeks on an $80 plan for both. This saved me the TAX from walmart ($40) and $200 at purchase.

So far Grove IP has been great and the 4G coverage is ok in my area.

I hope that helps

Also amazing that you only have 51 reps, for a good deal and a long-lived thread.

FYI, *#0011# puts you into a service mode that allows you to see some of the phone's radio parameters. I thought, after looking at a few online videos and pics, there was a RF jack underneath the upper-left black paper on the back of the phone. I picked at the paper and found out I ripped the GPS antenna circuit trace instead. I was able to patch it with some HVAC foil tape and creative cutting.

So if I buy this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobil...d/21631986

I can just pop in my current T-Mo sim card and use it on my existing T-Mobile plan?

yes, but you will also have the $30 airtime "pin" from what i read if you buy the phone and the $30 card they e-mail you the "pin", and you cant return it, so if you just want the phone, you should check the walmart store insted

Still trying to figure out if the T989 will work on ATT or other networks? Is the Galaxy Nexus more versatile?

I think you guys are right... but someone (a few people?) posted that the T989 radio/network capabilities does not allow internet access (or maybe high speed internet?) on ATT, but I cannot find anything to say that the Galaxy Nexus is different.

I've found a link that says ATT is using LTE, and it is not clear to me if the T989 is capable of the same LTE as ATT is working on.

Do you guys know if the T989 has the same radio/network capabilities as the Galaxy Nexus (which is the only other contender right now, I'm not interested in the ATT branded skyrocket).

Also, this sim gives me email access on my dumb phone. its an older samsung phone slider with 3 G. So I know my data is not blocked or anything.

Unlocked by T-Mobile. Officially. Not from ebay or anything.
Hi, you posted in the Wiki that the T989 doesn't work with ATT Data? (I think you posted it). Is that confirmed?

Also, if it is confirmed, do you know if a Samsung Galaxy Nexus would work better?

Also, how did you get it unlocked by Tmo? I called, they said I have to be a customer for 60+ days before they'll unlock it.

It sounds you paid $200 ETF total for 2 phones rather than $200 for each phone. How did you do that?
