I'll be answering questions here (also on the page linked below). Walmart does have these, look at the photos on the page. Ask someone competent in the Walmart Connection Center and ask if they have them in stock. They got the update on their computers last week (8/6/2012) on the deal and how it works. Stores received them between August 8th through the 13th - some earlier.

Adding this to clear up questions
There seems to be a lot of incorrect assumptions on here as well as a lot of misinformation being given. Let me clarify everything. Also, it would be worth reading the info listed in the source.

This deal works ONLY at Walmart stores in the Connection Center. Stores should have received them and should have the info tags posted next to their Walmart Family Mobile display. There are no additional discounts or rebates available on this. The Galaxy S II is $570 outright, so you are effectively getting this phone for $270 off already.

There are two separate ways to attain the Galaxy S II for $299 in store:
¤ Activate a Walmart Family Mobile account. This will require a $25 activation kit, which includes your WFM SIM card. For more info on that, view the source. Existing customers of WFM should be able to get this deal after confirming their account.

¤ Buy the Prepaid variant - aka, the T-Mobile Monthly 4G Branded Box. This includes the Prepaid SIM card in the box, which they will activate for you. You must get a monthly plan valued at $30 and up.

Not all stores have these phones yet, but that has to do with their ordering system and their competence.

How is your battery life? Are you sure there aren't some apps constantly using the internet or wifi? Do you keep installing the same app that may be causing this problem?

On the other hand, I really wanted to get this phone but I think I will wait for the new Nexus. I hate the fact that even the new nexus won't have SD option. That leaves only Galaxy Nexus due to price. honestly if the price goes down to $250 i would get it, because I think new nexus will not be available straight from google right away, or at least not until they sell out of Galaxy Nexus. And then once we get to that point the new LG Galaxy will be on sale for $350 or $400.

Has anyone tried to purchase the Galaxy SII (the T-Mobile prepaid 4G version @$299) from a WalMart store recently? We tried over the weekend, at 3 different stores (in MA & NH), and none of them could get the serial numbers to scan in properly. Trying multiple phones at all 3 stores (both scanning and typing in), they all came back saying the serial number was 'invalid' and the phone could not be activated. We were unable to purchase one as a result. May have to order one on-line instead, but I am wondering if this is a 'localized' issue, or a WalMart-wide issue?

Anybody thinking of picking up the new Nexus 4 instead, $299 with 8gb or $349 with 16gb. Only problem with using it with Walmart Family Mobile plan is the micro sim which you should be albe to cut down with a sim cutter.

the nexus 4 kills this deal.

unless you require removable battery, and a microsd card slot.

I just read it, keep in mind you will be limited to 8GB for $300 and they are simply charging $50 for another 8GB, which is ridiculous.. I can't wait for someone to figure out how to increase the capacity on these phones. Believe me you will go through 8GB right away, and even at 16 GB, it completely makes it useless as a music device (not everyone has coverage all the time, especially in place like NYC) and forget about storing videos. Google is pushing everyone very hard to utlilize google play music and other cloud storage. Terrible..

For someone like house-wife or someone who just wants a nice looking phone but doesnt care about storage, or twitter-crazy or instagramopath will like it. Smilie

Honestly, I just watched Microsoft presentation, WP8 looks very nice, and Always-On Skype is excellent! I am thinking about waiting for WP8 phones, and I think Google felt the threat that's why they just lowered the prices.

What do you guys think?

if you really need a massive amount of storage space you can always temporarily add a hub/card reader.

honestly, the only people I know using skype are europeans.

Do you really consider 16GB massive storage? I have a 16GB playbook and it is already filled with only 500mb space left with games and sesame street videos for my son. I with I had bought 32GB. Plus dealing with built-in storage on Nexus devices is pain in the neck, which is another reason why I hated WP7 phones, although that is much worse, you actually need Zune to put music on the phone..

Anyway, now there is another debate, get Nexus 7 or Kindle HD. Let me see if there is a discussion going on about Kindle, i just realized there is no MicroSD on Kindle either..

Repped, and thanks.

I'm not sure why someone posted in the wiki that the T989 will not work on ATT data.
i finally figured it out.
it does work on att, but not on the cheap data plan.
so buying this phone for the normal att data plan doesn't make sense.

Oh, okay.

So I'm waiting in vain on getting this phone unlocked. Ridiculous customer service at T-Mobile. Some people are helpful, most don't know jack. I'm very disappointed in T-Mobile. I'm sure glad I don't have a contract with these guys.

Anyone know how to get this phone unlocked?

xda developers has some methods. Otherwise you have to use T-Mobile for a month or two and then they would give you a code.
