Reasons for thumbing-down in the C&S forum

Sorry, I don't see it. No one can even see one thumbs down if there more thumbs up. They could make a rule that no one is allowed to give a post the thumbs down. But wouldn't that make the thumbs up pretty meaningless?

Also, there are lots of people that would like to post but can't because they are already posted. I used to post freebies and good deals but it was very hard to be first. I finally just decided that it didn't matter. The freebies and good deals are going to get posted without me. Don't get me wrong, I will still post something that isn't already posted. But i don't put a lot of effort into trying to be first anymore. It's not my job. It's a fun hobby.

Again, I apologize if my posts sounds like I don't appreciate the work that you and others do on the board. I really don't mean it that way.

No one is asking that they take away the thumbs down. There are a number of VALID reasons for thumbs down: repost, spam, self-promotion, poor sponsor reputation, incorrect information, improperly formatted post, etc. Which brings me back to the question I've asked repeatedly now without getting an answer. Hot Deals and Freebies forums REQUIRE that the user provide a reason for their thumbs down. Why not the C&S forum?

Hot Deals has "Other" so even if we copied the system it wouldn't necessarily change anything. Furthermore, we don't enforce TD reasons, so even if someone tags it bad price and you disagree, we won't remove the TD.

I'm not sure what you're hoping to gain from anything like that

Seriously? You can't see how requiring the choice of a valid reason for a thumbs down would cut back on the number of bogus TDs?

Honestly,I don't go in the C&S, but if I did and I was a TDer... I wouldn't care if it wanted a reason or not. I would just put other or any option and just say that was my reason/opinion of why I didn't like a post.
You have to remember, the people that like to thumb down ( if doing it for vindictive reasons) aren't the type of people that having to put a reason is going to bother them.

If the thread gets thumbed up it outweighs the thumbs down anyways. It's not like threads have 10 thumbs down and are red...if so, they usually aren't a good post IMO.

No, it won't.

If someone is going to give a bogus TD, why on earth would they care if it's tagged as generic TD or "unable to replicate" or "doesn't work" or such? They're TDing it because they want to and nothing will deter them. Just like the people who abuse votes in other forums to TD everything by the same user - they don't care what option they pick as long as it results in a TD.

Adding types to TD would only offer additional info (if needed) like it does for Hot Deals; it would not stop bogus TDs.

While it’s true that nothing (except admin) can stop the abusers who get their thrills thumbing down everything in sight, there are those who cast bogus TDs out of ignorance. People often TD concert trips because they dislike the artist. They may TD a nice Harley giveaway because they don’t like motorcycles. They might TD a Caribbean cruise because they get seasick. If they were presented with a list of VALID reasons that they were REQUIRED to choose from, fair shot they would reconsider their thumbs down.
