Whoops! Didn't see that I was beat. I make the trek to the local MC about 2 times a week (IT Admin), so here is a picture of their ad. Disregard the value dates, I can confirm the 55" is $1049 right now.

There is also a very slick deal on the 60PA6500 for $799..a full $100 cheaper than HHG with no silly coupon business.

This is a legit deal at $1049 Micro Center B&M. The best thing was, if someone had purchased it this recent Tax Free weekend in Massachusetts for $1149, come on back and they'll give you the credit of $100.

Google TV at this point still seems to be a work in progress. LG is the only manufacturer making a TV with it built in. Sony made one before, but now has switched to doing an external unit. Vizio was planning to make several TVs with Google TV built in, but has apparently switched to also making an external unit. Samsung has also expressed interest in making a display with Google TV built in, but has not shown or demonstrated a product yet...

As a rabid fanboy of Google, I've made this argument before but it's worth saying again:

If you aren't absolutely turned off by the aesthetics of the Google TV, it's BY FAR the best value out there (when on a slick deal).

Find me another dual core, full browser, 120Hz+ 55" LED TV for under $1100.

1. Colors have been more accurate on plasmas, agreed. But, plasmas cannot attain the white levels Their whites are comparatively gray. ABL makes this worse. From what I have read in AVS forums, there is no way to disable ABL. in the ST/GT/ or VT I have seen the transition from "white" to more grayish in a white scene on a GT50.

2. AVS Forums still has horror stories of VT30s and newer getting burned in though not as common as the older ones. Indeed, what I saw might be IR but some folks report weeks to months of the same IR before it goes away. If you watch 16x9 signals and don't watch too much with with a sticking logo, should be fine. I wouldn't want image retention from watching a couple letter box movies in a row. That's annoying.

4. Agreed for the most part, emphasis on TV watching (sans logos) is the safest for plasma. Ironically, they are supposed to be champions of cinema but risk IR from letterbox. Also, and I think local dimming is a wonderful thing (excluding some blooming), but even if a plasma has an absolute black in value, nothing makes black look black as brilliant white. Plasma whites are dull.


HX929s are very expensive (and disappearing) and the Elites even more. For the money, the Panny line is great. I want at least a 65" screen and they were in the running until I read too much at AVS Forums and then saw them live. Being able to view off angle better isn't selling me enough compared to IR and potential burn in, murky whites, and worse performance in a bright room (not overall as bright).

So, I am left with my samll 46" HX909, hoping that next year OLED will be there to end all debates.

For an LED edge-lit, you're hard-pressed to find a better bargain at $1049, especially with a top tier manufacturer such as LG. but I will touch on a couple points some earlier posters have brought up and reflect them off my personal experience.

1. GoogleTV is still in its infancy, no doubt about it, and whats prevalent about that fact is there's still lots of bugs, LOTs OF BUGS to work out. My TV blanks out sometimes when I try to adjust settings. and every 10-15 minutes it freezes and reboots when I'm streaming movies via USB, but this doesn't happen when viewing TV or say..Netflix.

2. Picture Quality wise, this thing leaves a lot to be desired. Amazon states it to have the same contrast ratio as the 6200, and I tend to agree because it shows.



I'm hoping the kinks I'm experiencing are isolated. I'm thinking of returning it if this is a widespread problem, but if it's just me and mine is a lemon, then I'll exchange it. Those of you that bought one, please give your input.

I haven't tried mine... did u bought it from Micro center? How is the TV and how it the performance??

Paul's TV will price match. I called and asked myself and directed the guy looked at it really hard and even put me on hold for a few minutes, but ultimately said they would be able to PM. Another option in case anybody wanted/needed one.
