USB data pin toggler for android devices
It's well known that android devices "know" whether or not to charge in USB (low current) or AC (high current) mode depending upon whether the data pins in the USB connection are shorted (AC) or not (USB). This makes a world of difference in charge time.So you can just hack up a USB cable (short the data wires), but this renders the cable useless for data xfer. I haven't been able to find a "toggle" switch/adapter of some sort where you can selectively short the pins or not. This would be great for travel use and in the car. Does such a thing exist? |

Just get a car or wall adapter that shorts those pins. Not reason to carry a special cable that you can't use for data. Some wall/car adapters can only handle outputting 500ma, tricking the device into drawing more would end badly.
As an aside there are some cable that you can toggle between data and charge for the purpose of isolating the device from your computer, but most if not all of these will be limited to 500ma charging. The instances where something like this would be useful are pretty limited. Last edited by jkee; 08-14-2012 at 06:40 PM.. |

Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

I actually saw a charger on clearance at walmart the other day that had a switch to toggle between the tactics apple and other manufactures use to indicate that the charger can handle a higher output.
I stand by my statement earlier that the particular type of cable you were asking about could be hazardous. |
