Frankly, I've never voted on any day that wasn't election day, nor ever needed to. (I've also voted in some fairly poor districts and waited in hours-long lines to do so.) I'm generally ok with allowing early voting so long as it's done in an even-handed manner across the board (that is, if one polling place is open two weeks early, then every polling place should be open two weeks early). But I don't see the overwhelming need for it; people who really want to vote will find a way to vote**.

(BTW, it sure seems like the GOP guy was attempting to be a jerk - extending hours only in Republican districts.)

** Assuming no dirty tricks or poll sabotaging is in effect. People who conspire to do that should see lengthy prison terms.
