Agreed - if you're going to use an HDD for an OS drive, WD Black series is the way to go. Green and Red series are more optimized for mass data storage... Not even sure if they make blue in the >=1TB range

I agree, this is a solid price for this drive.

These drives should work with any RAID cards without dropping out of the array, for those that were wondering. Their green/blue drives can have problems with dropping out of arrays on certain RAID cards.

I take that back, it's a crapshoot if it has TLER or not for RAID cards apparently from researching it.

I've read that too. I wish Amazon would price match. I think I'd buy 4. I've read that Newegg doesn't package drives as well as Amazon these days.

I just read that I am wrong though when researching it. The "black" brand doesn't necessarily mean anything related to TLER.

The 1tb version was just on sale for $99 at amazon.

I'm more interested in software RAID than hardware RAID anyway. These would be more than adequate for FlexRAID.

I built an HTPC recently so I need the bigger capacity drives. I have 2 x 3tb hard drives now but the warranty and the lower-rated power-on specs have me thinking I should return them for these drives. They have about the best warranty you can get.

This has a 5 year warranty folks. Try using ANY drive for 5 years; there is a good chance it will fail during that time meaning you are out of luck if its beyond the 1 year warranty expiration date of Seagate drives or 2-year warranty expiratio date of WD green drives.

Drives can fail for things like microvibrations and operating outside optimal thermal conditions (either too hot or too cold) can eventually kill a drive. These things are great for peace of mind.
