Could you provide any evidence of that claim? You're the first person I've heard mention this. If this really is the case, I'd be interested to know how to tell.
I bought one of these from Amazon about this time last year. Didn't have any problems with it at all. My dad played with it and enjoyed it so much that I decided to buy him one for Christmas. I actually ended up buying his from meritline because they had them for about $5 cheaper at the time. I had no clue that fakes were as big of a problem as they are. I got his in and decided to give it a test run before wrapping it and I could tell a difference before I ever got it into the air. Everything looked/felt different. His controller was heavier without batteries, than mine was with batteries, I knew something was wrong then. I started doing some research and sure enough, the one I got from amazon was a fake/knockoff. I contacted Amazon and although they claimed to NEVER sell fakes/knockoffs of anything, they agreed for me to return my used helicopter for a full refund. So I can vouch that there are fakes, and that at least 1 fake has come from Amazon. Here[syma107.com] and here[rcgroups.com] are a couple of sites that talk about real S107's vs fake S107's.
