Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for college
Sorry I dont know much about computers, I've been looking for cheap computers (financial problems of course). Can anyoen recommend me some computers from the Lenovo outlet site? I don't play games or anything. I just need a fast computer, that's pretty much it. No need for good graphics or anything Thanks |

I figured I'd chime in on this. About a week ago I ordered an Intel core i5 E420 Thinkpad from Lenovo outlet using the EMAIL10 code. Ended up paying $407 with tax and free ship. It was a refurb model and I believe the reason it was returned was 1 stuck pixel (blue). Besides that the Thinkpad is a WONDERFUL laptop. The build quality of the keyboard is light-years better than any other laptop I've tried and in general it just feels sooo much better quality than any (sub $1500) Acer, Asus, Samsung, & HP laptops I have tested out. I was going to return it and grab a different one but they don't have any more with the same features anywhere near the price i paid unfortunately so I think I'll just live with a stuck pixel.
Edit: To clarify a few things some people are asking about. My Thinkpad came with a 6 cell battery and it lasts roughly 5 hours with regular use. The Lenovo power management utility actually says how many cycles the battery has been though. Mine said 3, but I had already cycled it once by the time I discovered that application. As for delivery time, it took 5 days, 3 of which were actual business days. One thing to keep in mind is that theres only ONE of each one of those laptops listed. If you have it in your cart and go through the whole check-out/payment process and then it gives you some error about not being able to apply the coupon to your order, that means the laptop sold while you were checking out. That happened with the 1st 2 I found because I was being pokey about committing to the order. Last edited by eightball024; 08-17-2012 at 04:17 PM.. |

No notification of any sort. My advice: deal with a more reputable company. |

I'd be interested in an i5 desktop system, not necessarily lenovo though, but definitely cheap as possible. Was looking at some off-lease dell optiplex 980 towers on ebay for around $400, but they are 1st generation Intel i5 i believe. My company needs about 4 systems, but of course they give me a budget that will pay for 2.

1st generation i5 = Sandy Bridge i3 Ivy Bridge is about 10-15% faster than Sandy Bridge at the same clock speed. I have an i7-950 at work and an i5-2500k at home and they're roughly equal except for highly threaded multiprocessor apps which run slightly better on the i7. |

Im sure with these lenovo outlet deals they do ship *some* --but a lot of them they dont. The fact that its hit or miss makes them a crappy company to deal with IMO. Say what you want about Dell---but they ship ALL their items, unless its a price mistake. Ive never seen one Dell outlet thread where someone has said they ordered something and didnt get it, yet there's been 100's of people on these lenovo outlet thread reporting issues. Me included. When dealing with a MAJOR computer manufacturer, wondering whether or not you are going to get your item should never come into the equation, ever.

Having bought from both Lenovo and Dell, its apparent that Dell has a better inventory management process. You 'own' a machine in your cart for a period of time with Dell, but lenovo will sell the machine to someone else if they're quicker at checking out.
I therefore guess that a lot of the people who didn't get a machine from them was because multiple people 'bought' the same machine. I usually buy mine when I see they're on sale, but never when someone posts about it on slickdeals because the inventory gets hammered when that happens. Obviously a decent order processing system that locks a machine to a cart isn't rocket science, nor is it expensive. So either Lenovo doesn't care if two or more people buy the same machine because it got sold anyhow, or they're simply unaware of or don't care that they're ticking off customers. |
