Windows 8 will be more successful than Windows 7 and XP
Mark my words... I'm firmly convinced of this after using CP,RP and now RTM.Microsoft hit this OS out of the park! So much better than 7 its scary good. All those naysayers out there.... you too will be clamoring for this OS in a couple months. Windows 7 seems like a beta of windows 8. I've used then all since 3.1 this is by far the best one. Call me impressed, I had my doubts too...no more. |

I disagree. It may take off once touch screen monitors become widespread but I kinda doubt it.
companies help drive adoption for new Operating systems and most of them are just now adopting windows 7 with the end of support for windows xp being very near. It's going to require a lot of retraining for end users by companies for windows 8 and that's going to cause it to get pushed to the back burner. All of this could have been avoided if Microsoft had just given us the option to turn off the new desktop interface and revert to the classic desktop environment with a start menu. |

I don't see it probably 40% of users would prefer to stay with the look of XP if they could win 7 is better under the hood but many tasks take one or 2 more clicks than before win 8 does not help that and makes things even more complex. I think it will gain traction as a tablet app and probably for windows phones,

Windows 8's Metro interface will be part of Microsoft's plans to bring that UI to other platforms. Klein stated, "What we're trying to do is develop a complete set of experiences across all device types, be they TV, tablets, PCs, phone, whatever. It's unclear exactly what the ultimate device spectrum will be. In everything that we're doing I think things have come together very nicely over the last couple of years" Again i'm a long time Windows user.... I go all the way back to DR DOS/CPM so I've seen and used it all....including Unix/Linux and apple. Windows 8 is essentially a MAJOR SP2 for Vista....not much has really changed since Vista and its overhaul of security. Its Vista done right. That being said...even though I hated Metro at first its grown on me... I can get into control panel faster in Windows 8 than 7... I can do everything faster in 8 than in 7. Things from joining a homegroup to seeing network shares are just smoother in 8 than in 7. When I go back to 7 it seems "clunky" unrefined... kind of hard to describe and I loved 7. Little things like Hyper-V built in are awesome too. Everyone is so freaked out over Metro... but once you get used to it, you find its so much better than Start menu its crazy. They did their homework they don't want another Vista... and now that the Anti trust shackles are off.... its a street fight for dominance....DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE MICROSOFT. |

Its going to be the first "secure" alternative end-user OS (Tablets/phones). It can all be locked down with AD. Same kernel cross devices. Companies will adopt the Server2012/Windows 8 model because it gives then more security and flexibility. Time to replace those aging 2003 networks. Everything under Active Directory. As for training 8 is EASIER..... you have to think outside the box sometimes. Last edited by boltman2007; 08-17-2012 at 02:30 PM.. |

![]() Nice thing about Metro is you can organize it...and it stays across all your systems. Also you can find anything just by typing from the moment Windows 8 user logs on. Here I just typed "c" from Metro interface (no box just "c" on my keyboard)...notice Control panel is second icon down it would literally take 2 seconds to launch control panel from a successful user logon. ![]() Notice How I have a second desktop Icon (top picture next to larger desktop icon)...that is my Windows 7 desktop (now on drive D) as I'm running Windows 8 off a bootable VHD file that created a 40GB drive C: So i can grab any of my Windows 7 documents instantly from its desktop with a simple click. VHD native booting in 7 and 8 is awesome. My Windows 8 runs from an expandable VHD file (expands to 40GB) just as fast as bare metal install. I can boot either 7 or 8 at system start..VHD's do not require virtual support either. (Yet I can run Hyper-V in one) With Window to Go you can run it from a 32GB USB drive on any windows 7 system... keeping your desktop with you. Last edited by boltman2007; 08-17-2012 at 03:27 PM.. |

well in my enterprise we use desktops and notebooks no phones and no tablets (no wifi)
I looked at the RC for Windows 8 and could not get past it, but will see how it is in RTM also interested in Server 2012. My Govt customer is doing a tech refresh of 1000+ boxes and they are still using Windows XP, planning on Vista upgrade sometime mid 2013 |
