I am looking for a plasma for my brother. How much is a comparable Panasonic 720p plasma? I love my Panasonic that I purchased in 2007

i'm okay with 720p, but the problem is many of these are 1024 x 768.. which will mess up the ratio

Way to selectively quote me. I said if you do a lot of gaming, it can be a problem. I played about 150 hours of Battlefield 3 on my samsung plasma and there was burn in from the HUD. But after streaming 4 seasons of Breaking Bad on Netflix it had all but disappeared. The trick with plasmas is to vary the content and the burn in becomes much less of a problem.

As others have mentioned, the picture quality on these TVs is very nice. 600 Hz refresh rate blows even the nicest LEDs out of the water, and the blacks are truly unparalleled. It really is silly arguing about these things. Any prudent consumer/slickdealer can do the research and make a decision on whether or not this deal is good for them. Based on my positive experience with the product, I wanted to add my two cents.

What you experienced is not burn in. Burn in is permanent. You had image retention which is common on plasmas and usually goes away after watching TV for a while. It can be annoying for sure and is one of the negatives of owning a plasma. Burn in is a real issue as well but very hard to induce in a modern plasma. You almost have to abuse a TV to get burn in.

Burn in is not as issue unless someone abuses the TV

IR( image retention) is not the same thing as burn in

in regard to power consumption

the last time I did a comparison ...watching 8 hours a day...Plasma vs LED of a similar size would save you $20.00 a year...if you watch say 4 hours a day its $10.00 a year

the price difference between the two is typically $200-300...you do the math on how long the pay back is

They have this for 399 at Best Buy. I had it for a day, but I sit too close and they SDE/pixelation was noticeable. I really wanted to like it, too.
