If you don't need PC gaming capability, then many choices from last years CPU tech which is selling great this year will suffice (all below with integrated graphics is ok for anyone not demanding PC gaming capability.)
2nd gen Intel i3, i5 AMD A6, A8 Llano (last years AMD cpus) Intel & AMD Dual core processors --these may become outdated & feel too slow in a few years. **Try searching for any of the above CPU laptops and it might be possible to find between $300-450: But if you need dedicated graphics or stronger graphics for games, then it usually cost $450+. You should always go for a reliable make and pay attention to build quality (eg. Asus, Lenovo, DellXPS, HPenvy,etc.). Sometimes HP and Acer give specs that will amaze you for a low price, but then some purchasers have the worst experience with component failures within the first 6 months. Toshiba used to be considered very good in the past but it also has begun having more customer complaints in recent years. But a lot of happy campers from these brands exist too (so heed this advice with a grain of salt).... Best possible deals around $400 (between $300 & $500): GOOD CPUs: Toshiba Satellite AMD A6 3420m 17.3" 1600x900 $430 [officedepot.com] or $404 @OM B&M [officemax.com] Toshiba Satellite AMD A6 3420m 15.6" $380 [officedepot.com] Samsung A6 3420m 320gb HD $370 to $380 [newegg.com]--comes & goes at that price Acer AMD A6 3420m + radeon 7670m <$400 AR (Dual graphics if PC gaming matters):---uncertain of availability B&M--price may vary in store YMMV ~ around $450 Acer 17.3" AMD A6 3420M + 1GB Radeon 7670M $530 [newegg.com] --Has graphic card & Available at Newegg Asus 14" Intel 2nd gen i3 2.3ghz 320gb$380 [bestbuy.com] or Asus Intel 2nd gen i3 2.2ghz 500gb $350 [bestbuy.com] Acer Timeline 14" 2nd gen Intel i3 (integrated graphics) $400 Samsung Intel i3 15.6" 500gb $400 [bestbuy.com] Acer 15.6" 2nd gen Intel i3 2370 + GT 630m 4GB ram, 500gb HD [newegg.com]$499.99 +FS -- has dedicated graphics card but only 2nd gen i3 cpu-OOS (check back to see if it's in stock?) Toshiba Satellite AMD A6 3420m 15.6" $380 [officedepot.com]
http://www.officedepot.com/a/prod...-Computer/ Can I get some feedback on this model? Helping a friend look for a laptop for general use, entertainment, web browsing, light gaming, etc. nothing too intense. With a OD coupon I found it takes another $25 off the laptop bringing it down to $355. Are the specs worth the price? Anything around $300-400 better than this? should we wait for another deal to pop up? Thanks to Atoneapone for the above post as it was really helpful. |

![]() I would say it's safe to go with any of the above deals except any refurb deals. -Asus AMD A6 3420m 320gb HD Usb 3.0 $350 --does everything Toshiba does with same specs + USB 3.0, but $30 cheaper + more savings since no tax online. -Also a Samsung A6 3420m 320gb HD $380 [newegg.com] with no tax + FS(from newegg), but specs are the same as Toshiba. -Also the Lenovo AMD A8 3520m Llano usb 2.0/eSata $430 with radeon 6620g came back. Slightly better CPU, GPU, & internal speakers than above deals. The only thing differentiating all the <$400 deals are build quality, keyboard feel, speakers, Name brands, and our luck of getting a laptop that doesn't fail within a short time period. I like the keyboard on all 3 of the above deals vs Toshiba keyboard. Most budget laptops have subpar speakers but Lenovo has been noted to have decent quality speakers. I also prefer Asus & Lenovo over Samsung, Sony, Acer, HP, Toshiba, & Gateway. But personal bias to any name brand can sometimes be counter productive since all of these brands have countless happy customers. It's great to have so many good choices! But deals come and go, so decisions have to made firm and quick. Last edited by atoneapone; 08-25-2012 at 11:04 AM.. |
