Don't use lighter fluid, it's cheaper not too and makes your food taste better. What you should be using is a charcoal chimney, weber make a VERY sturdy one for 20 bucks or walmart makes one you'll have to replace maybe in 6 months for like 7 dollars. It lights your coals using quicker (20 mins for 450 degrees) and you only have to use a little newspaper or some other paper. It is very easy, cheap (no lighter fluid) and very quick. I full reccomend it.

This is the truth. SO MUCH EASIER and all the coals heat evenly. Just bought one this summer and will NEVER go back to lighter fluid. Weber has a great one for like $15 on Amazon.

That's good to know but this is 40# for $10, which is far better than 16# for $7.

Duh, somehow I thought it was two ten pounders. The sad thing is this would last me four years, so I buy smaller sizes but they aren't as cheap. I only use charcoal when we grill at a park or my sister in law's house. At home I have a weber genesis.

Get a chimney and use these Diamond Strike a Fire. [amazon.com]

If you use newspaper, it will leave a mess and flying ash everywhere.
Use these fat matches and it will leave no mess and ignite your charcoal easily.
