Quality seems hit or miss but generally good reviews. From the Newegg reviews it sounds like they up and die more often than the more expensive equipment. Since this switch might be the heart of the network it's not worth the risk to me.

+I've had 2 of the metal case versions of this switch (S80G) running as my network backbone for over a year and never had a single problem with them. Handle jumbo frames fine, and good throughput. I just added one of these S8G plastic frames about a month ago to expand one room; no problems so far, we'll see how it goes.

IMO, metal rules; it dissipates heat. Plastic is an insulator. Not that these likely get very hot, but could be an issue. I'm reminded of the old Motorola "easy bake modems".

I have a 29 dollar dell GC. I was holding out on a sale for newegg for the metal one for 19.99. Think I should buy this (technically free) or will dell have something better later on.
