I had ING Savings accounts for a while, but when Capital One bought them I bailed. It makes me nauseous to give Cap1 my money. So I switched to Ally and am happy.
I use ING for both checking and savings. I too was concerned but haven't noticed any difference. Still the same great CS. I wish they'd get an app for the WP though. Ally and ING seem to be the two popular choices right now and both provide good interest rates. I'm also interested/like the change your rate CD at Ally.
I've used Ally, ING and Amex Savings - they all have great customer service. ING compounds interest monthly, not daily if I'm not mistaken. I left when they lowered their rate awhile back. I see that it's back up to .80%.
I ended up using CIT Bank with 1.05% interest rate and have been very happy with them. They aren't open weekends or 24/7 like some of the others which is no big deal to me. I left the other accounts open just in case. CIT only lets you deposit $250,000 at first, so I put the remainder in Ally. Ally makes each person on the account have a separate log-in which was annoying, but other than that they have EXCELLENT customer service as do the others, however I'm not saving to make CSR friends, so I transferred the rest to CIT when I could. No idea why CIT does this, but oh well. Their reps are very good also.
My only concern is that my husband refuses to learn how to use a computer (he's so old school) and they (CIT) only have online statements. I have an ultimately fatal disease and have always handled all the finances, so I worry about him after I'm gone. Finally came to the conclusion that all he has to do is call CIT (or our bank or whoever) and they'd take care of stuff for him.
Whoever you go with, check out how they handle beneficiaries. Some of them are more of a convoluted process than others. When you're young it's something that many don't think about. You just never know.
