How does this processor compare to the i5 2500K?

I can't help you there, but I did hear that this processor gets really hot so you might want to look into that

I added everything individually to my cart on Amazon.com and this comes out to $400+ another $50 or so in shipping.

It's really not a terrible real considering the processor alone was on sale for $90 a few weeks back. That might have been the Black Edition of this processor, but I can't quite remember

Overclockers already know but if you get this to 4ghz which should be pretty much guaranteed, depending whether you live in the desert ambient temperatures or not, it'll beat the i3-2100 and will win even more handily in multi-threaded applications.

Define "beat". The i3-2100 loses in 16/30 tests and ties 1 test from your link (wins 13/30).

When I built a computer for my work I was choosing between an i3-2100 and a Phenom 2 955. I chose the Phenom 2 because it can overclock.

I do agree with the the phenom being better at running multithreaded applications but when it comes to gaming, even with the the phenom being OCd I would stick to intels line up, including the i3. Id use the phenoms for an excellent HTPC. Which is what this setup would be PERFECT for.

Higher power usage for slightly better multi-threaded performance, yes the i3. Plus you have a known upgrade path for i5-2500/3570k!

I just bought one of these processors for my son who plays online minecraft. What can you overclock this processor to? Is it pretty straightforward to do under BIOS settings?

No HDMI -always wanted to say that... - or DVI, either. VGA only. It does have serial and parallel ports though. Somehow I feel cheated there are no ports for IDE/PATA hard drive or floppy disk.

760G chipset? It was introduced as "a low-cost DirectX 10.1 solution for value PCs" [pcmag.com] over three years ago.

The Phenom II X4 955 is the Black Edition at least. Get them while you can.

I guess an OK deal if you are without a micro center or frys.

What I would do though is if you liked the case was to buy the same case with 450 watt power supply for $40 which is a savings of $40.

Instead of the corsair 4GB of ram I would buy the Kingston HyperX 8GB Desktop Memory Kit which is double the ram and its pc1600 instead of pc1333 for the same price.

FYI, at microcenter a 965BE retail proc and the same mobo are $100 total
