The large video corporations make their earnings off proven IP's and lose money when creating new ones (lower sales on a new title plus r&d costs), so yes, we are seeing annual releases and re-hashed titles because it is what people are buying.
While I like to think it's a shame and we shouldn't be buying these titles in order to renew ingenuity within the industry, call me guilty because I currently own Dead Space 2, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 3, Madden 12, NCAA 11, Far Cry 2, etc..
