anyone know of any good deals on an IDE DVD-RW drive? they're getting harder and harder to find good deals on (around $20 or so)

For DVD disc? What is it? Never heard that term for years.
All my desktops and laptops are now using usb...

and use a SATA drive.

thanks for the idea, but i've tried those before. sometimest they work great and sometimes i have issues. the bigger issue is trying to use them in a desktop with limited space such as the slimline models.

You have to be carefull that you buy the bidirectional one, I made a mistake and posted the unidirectional at first but then fixed the link (Both unidirectional and bidirectional should transfer data both ways, but I think the main difference could be where the converter gets power from). I recommend plugging it in to the motherboard, but if that is not an option because of tight space, you can mount it on top or on the side of the Sata drive with a piece of plastic in between to avoid shorting it.
