Try a defensive driving course, which should generally apply a discount at any carrier. Just make sure you don't fib and try to get a discount that you're not entitled to. That can always come to bite you when something happens and there's lots of money involved.

Have you called Amica and asked them what discounts they offer? They, and USAA, are the two best insurers in the country. They will be upfront with you. Simply call them and they will be more than happy to help you with this. And, congratulations that you're with Amica now - you're with the best.

I can't comment on this specific comparison, but for me, Geico was very expensive compared to Erie Insurance. My wife and I are 34 and have no tickets, accidents, or claims within the last 7+ years aside from a broken window (theft) about 3 years ago.

Better with regards to overall customer experience - yes. According to Consumer Reports and J.D. Powers and Associates, Amica and USAA are the top two insurers year after year after year.

All carriers have rate creep. You need to change carriers every 5 years or so to keep your rates low. They won't lower your rates to what you would get as a new customer because they do not want to set a precedence for other existing customers. It is cheaper for them to lose you then to lower rates across the boards.

Don't become married to your carrier. Plan on changing frequently whenever it makes sense financially. You will get a refund up until the day you cancel your insurance.

My rates have dropped every year since I signed up with Erie. No one has been able to offer me auto insurance rates even close to what I'm getting with Erie. I'm certainly not married to them, but until someone offers me a cheaper rate, I'm not going anywhere.

We haven't found that to be true for us (we have State Farm). Our rates have gone down over the years (thankfully).

Car insurance is one of those things - there are so many different factors involved - a person really just has to shop around and see what numbers come up for them from the different companies. So I definitely agree that you need to shop around every few years and see what other companies are charging for the same coverage.

Both is good as far as i know.

Every time I've called around, no one can even get close to State Farm for me. Though, I haven't tried Amica. Was going to the other week but then read numerous horror stories about them screwing people over on claims. ymmv.

Interesting. Year after year no one touches Amica and USAA. I am sure there are a small number of anecdotal exceptions as no company is absolutely perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, I might as well go with the best as the others are behind them.

I wouldn't get scared off by some anecdotal online reviews. Look to sound research and studies from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates.
