Heard anything about Microsoft launch events?
Hello everyone,I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything about live, local launch events for the upcomming release of Windows 8 and/or Windows Server 2012? I remember in the past they had these events with tons of swag, and a free copy of Office or something like that. This time I can only find info about an online launch event. No mention of freebies though http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/se...d/new.aspx

Thanks for the update, the Denver one is in downtown Denver which is a pain to get to and from, they will get a packed house but many true IT people will not be there.
We have an area called the Denver Tech Center where Microsoft has their offices why they don't have events in that area always mystifies me. |

Yeah, the one in Detroit is not in the MS office either, but at a much larger location in downtown Detroit that's a pain in the rear to get to. I suspect that they're expecting too big of a turnout for the local offices to handle.
Yes, the events are good if you're in one of the targeted areas:

I didn't mean to have it at the office but there are plenty of large hotels in the general area, I have told all the vendors that choose downtown hotels that I will not attend and have not. Too hard to get into no parking and to tell the truth getting a free copy of MS Office or Windows is not that big of a deal, I get all of it with my Technet Subscription which costs less than parking for all the crappy events.

Right! There are tons of places nearer to the MS office that are more convenient to a majority of the people that would attend an event like that - in the Detroit area, all of the tech companies are north & west of the city, and the MS office is right in the tech hub of the area (NOT in the city). It makes no sense to me why they would want it downtown where it's a longer drive & you have to pay for parking. I don't think I'll be going to this one.
